That said …,plenty 2.5 milers have won ….and he will be another year older so might stay…,,lot could depend on conditions & how race run

But if does start, he won’t be 50s or close ….and I tend to look at it more thru that light
Maybe a bit more head than heart .

Wasn’t Bob a bit more consistent in his runs last year, particularly showing particular resolution in his last race at Sandown against IEP? - albeit over 2 1/2 miles.

Jan 2024 he won in heavy ground at Cheltenham easily (7 lengths) from Marie’s Rock and Strong Leader over nearly 2m 5f.

Yes he will be 10 next year, but his rating is only 3lbs short of Teahupoo’s.

When Henry said he may try him again at 3m then where else is he going to go if running at Cheltenham ? If he wins/runs well in his first try at 3m this season then he won’t be 50/1 for the Stayers !

Obviously it’s not the target, but things happen over a season & Willie doesn’t have a good one here yet. He could use JDG for Mares

Its prob a bet more for those with books who want cover as were she suddenly to appear here, she’d be very very short

Just to show that these are sometimes worth it, I did a similar bet on GW Arkle last year …..with Willie I think it pays to think off scenarios sometimes & cover a few odd ones in case with his most talented horses…,,the ones that could win wherever they turn up

You could say the same logic applies to Impaire Et Passe if he doesn’t take to jumping fences ?

…..Sandor Clegane running in a 3m hurdle on Saturday at Wetherby for P Nolan. No idea if it’s a season back over hurdles for him.

I have seen a few trainers saying they will give 'such a horse' a spin over hurdles before going back chasing this season so far. He would be interesting if it's the hurdle route they are going down. He must have had a hell of a chance in the (old) NHC, top of the pile, and still is very high on the list. He has loads of options for a second season as a novice chaser so it's definitely one to keep an eye on for his second declaration if he takes up the hurdle engagement.

I’m sure someone (maybe Blair White) said he was hurdling until a tilt at the Irish nash?

Sounds like Strong Leader will be heading to the Fez.....

"He has very good form and looks unexposed over three miles. The main target in the first half of the season will be the Long Walk and whether we go for a Cleeve Hurdle before the Stayers I am not sure. Hopefully, he is one of the best staying hurdlers we have on this side of the water."

                      • My first official defeat of the season. Gale Mahler will follow. Only backed him a couple of days ago too for the taggy E/W money. Pure hard earned sterling too, no roll up which i have been doing a bit of recently. An almost certainty to go to the stayers with an eye on protecting his Grand National mark. I would retire him now if he was mine and let him enjoy his life in the field. Owes the owners absolutely nothing.

I was Vauban's biggest fan when he appeared on the scene but i have dropped him now. He just does not like a big field and being harassed. he is one for me that likes a nice steady pace to aim at and saves everything for the end. He won't get that in a Stayers. Something will go bombing off. He isn't one for me. Not even for place money. I think they are trying to re-invent the wheel with this lad now. He has been on the go all year and now they don't know what to do with him. He is a 2 mile hurdler and should have stayed there.

                            • Now he could be a huge threat to Teahupoo. Never saw that coming. Will he stay though ?
