  • I have covered for the Triumph as he could be good enough and I can't see any other credible JP candidate for the race.

But the fact that he'll likely be solely campaigned in France is exciting in respect of the Boodles. It means he'll benefit from a theoretical 10% reduction in his handicap rating as the British capper will simply multiply his rating by 2x, whereas the kg to lb conversion is c. 2.2. If he is rated 65kg over there, he'll be a 130 horse here, whereas his real rating would be closer to 143. It's not an exact science of course as the two cappers will inherently have a different way of doing things, like the Irish and British do, but he could have a chunk in hand (at least theoretically).

When horses are exported, I think this gets hugely overstated as changing stables etc. so late in the year can at least cancel out the 10% gain at the weights. But being a French raider, he won't have to worry about that.

I'm interesting to see what rating he gets when he next runs.

    • I really can't accept the use of the words 'exciting' and 'Boodles' in the same sentence.

Prix Cambaceres will be the telling time for him, should he turn up for the race.
JP hasnt bought him, to run solely in France, has he...... HaHa

Dont mind him running in the

          * Cambeceres
          or the
          * Triumph Trial Grade 2, at Cheltenham
on the same weekend in November, in 4 weeks time.

Stable/Trainer/Owner ran Milan Tino in the latter, last last season, but 2M proved too short for him as a Juvenile.

This fella' is different, he pulls because its French racing and they save their runs til late on.

It was a slow time c/w the other Hurdles races, and I think that Stencil did very well to come through off a slow pace, having pulled all the way round, and into the straight, to win like that was very promising.

You'd expect the quicker pace of GB/IRE racing,in Graded races, ought to suit him better.

          Here's hoping anyway.

The comeback race timing today, was no doubt purposefully to have the options above on 16th/17th November

          • I believe they had already mentioned coming to the PP meeting. Fits nicely and would give him a feel of the course and surroundings with a noisey atmosphere. Makes sense to me.

As i said prior to the race, the form of the race wasnt hugely strong and its a shame the Chaille chaille horse made a brutal mistake and slipped a saddle as Couer Damour finished with purpose.

I am tempted to take a price post race but havent done so yet, trainer has mentioned the Cambaceres as a possibility according to Charly, where he would meet FRs best juveniles.

Having watched the race in full, hes definitely got some potential and the time was very slow (slow by about 20lengths or so compared to the later 3yo juve race, albeit bigger field so would normally be pressure for pace on etc.)

If anyone is fluent in le frenchie, translate this

Main worry would be if he were to turn up in the Cambaceres, that could go heavy 1 way or another.. Beat the french juves and shorten right up, or be beaten then a handicap could come into the equation so would be good to hear what Noel George been saying post race as Charly mentioned Cambaceres post race.

                Translation...

This Monday, Stencil won the Prix de Bourges at Compiègne, preserving his unbeaten record (2 races - 2 wins). ️ His trainer Noël George and his jockey James Reveley are full of praise for him.

They both mention "a future very good steeplechase horse" and a possibility of participating in group events at Cheltenham.

Yeah I seen that translation mate, but obviously him and James said plenty between them

                        Thanks for that AV.

Does very much look your stereotypical chaser in the making.

                        • Jist of what James Reveley says: He's a real monster, he has feet like plates. I felt that it was good ground today with him (assume he means horse travelled in such a manner it didn't feel like heavy). Interviewer asks if he was ready today, JR says no, maybe 80%. He's going to improve a lot for this race. Interviewer asks about towards end of the race, JR says he wasn't worried, knew he had a lot of speed under him. Something about wanting to get closer gently, but it wasn't, as soon as horse overtook them one by one he took him, horse is very powerful. Was a good lesson today.

                          • He has a lot of class, he did it like in a morning gallop. He is a huge horse, he has a lot of mass, a lot of speed, the only worry I had was whether he was ready enough. He is a Group I horse for me, we will see his options. He has the Prix Général de Saint-Didier (Gr. III, on November 29) or the Prix Cambacérès (Gr. I on November 17) , and then Cheltenham. Personally, I would lean towards the Group III at Compiègne then, Cheltenham in January (for a preparatory race) , and the Triumph Hurdle (Gr. I in March).”

Excellent - Triumph it is then, for this season.
