Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

  • The softer the better is true for Energumene I wouldn't deny it, but for the purpose of a place bet I wouldn't disregard him
if it came up good. He still ran to 165 in defeat at Ascot on good ground so that's a level many of the contenders need to show they can get to.

      • Not sure if this chap on Twitter is accurate or not, but handle @albionracing seems to be quoting the Sportinglife stable tour from Willies and Gaelic Warrior looks set to come here still.

Just imagine the scenes if he gets to jonbon while dragging the anchor up the hill.

                  • It'll be like Deja Vu with Gaelic if he is declared.

He ran so bad in Dublin last year that many could not have him for the arkle, especially dropping down in trip.
                    They were wrong.

Those same people will have not been swayed by his performances this season - and will now likely put his arkle win down to the ground and lack of opposition.
They are probably right to some degree. I wouldn't argue too much against that thought process myself.

But ground and opposition aside, he still looked far better in his arkle win than in Dublin last year - For whatever reason.
He was just having a better day all round.

He'll need a fucking good day next Wednesday if he lines up.

As to his price vs SP.
I think the on the day market will be interesting as many will just see last years arkle winner, and Mullins.

His actual SP will depend quite a bit on if Townend picks him.
And I doubt Paul will get off Energumene.
But might be another tricky one for him this year I reckon.

I imagine they will have a little work to do at home before the jockey decides completely, but I suspect he’s very close to picking Energ.
Personally I think the participation of GW hinges on how much water gets into the course between now and next Wednesday.
But I would have said similar about Energ, and seems he’s definitely running whatever, so maybe they will do the same with GW.
We want as many in the race as possible so hopefully they decide to go for it.

It's Cheltenham, and so many horses are trained towards it, especially in Mullins yard, so ground talk is often just that.

                          Yep that’s fair.
Its only my opinion that he’s only chance of winning is on very soft ground.

                          • Whatever we think of Gaelic, we can't argue with his Festival record. He does seem to save his best performances for Cheltenham. He's probably just one of those that comes alive during the most important week of the year. Can't beat Festival form.

It makes him an each way bet

Losing in the Fred Winter still feels like a blemish, but you are right in theory, two festivals and a record of 21

He's quite an annoying gap for me

...and even more annoying I actually don't fancy him on ground that isn't soft or worse

He's the exact kind of horse that if he won, as the previous seasons Arkle winner, winning the QMCC, I'd be furious

I think I'll leave it though and if he wins I'll just go back and re-do the research on previous festival form as a blind rule
