  • Marine Nationale with some poor jumps there. Think he coughed his lungs up again when he saw the hill after the last. Nowhere near the standard required for this race.

    • To my eye Marine National has forgotten how to jump a fence. I don't think he has a prayer in March jumping like that. Maybe just a lack of experience. Quilixios looked much the better 2 mile Chaser.

      • ….Marine National out to a general 16-1 CC.

          Jesus christ

          Robbery from the bookies that

          Should be 100/1

          • I might be hearing what I expect to, but sounds like a squeaky wheeze as Marine jumps the last. The kind of noise you often here jockeys describe when they say a horses wind needs doing.

            • Not sure what that noise is but it didn't half look a laboured jump. Next run will be the telling one.

              • As every season around this time, we'll always give a horse a pipe opener. Yes, next time will tell us indeed.

                  • Well, I said Marine Nationale was too short when opening up at 4/9. Big drift, and typically I picked the wrong one to take him on with

Jonbon vs Gaelic vs Energumene it is then!

Yep, Q actually looked the proper 2m chaser to me too.
Jumped well, travelled well and finished strong.
Much rather take 50 for the CC, than 16 for MN, that’s for sure.

Agree. Coupled with HDB's record with 2m chasers he definitely isn't a 50/1 chance. You'd think he'd need it to cut up like this year but who knows.

I've watched yesterday's race at Naas a few times now and I just don't see how MARINE NATIONALE gets anywhere near close to winning the QMCC - either experience or just a poor jumper. Or maybe both. Have Cashed Out for a small loss.

                          • Barry Connell still thinks Marine Nationale is a player in the Champion Chase:

Barry Connell remains confident Marine Nationale can establish himself as a legitimate Queen Mother Champion Chase contender, despite his comeback defeat at Naas on Sunday.

                              No surprise there!!
He does like to talk his up.
To my eye he never looked the winner, and got well beat by a horse carrying more weight.
Lets see how he gets on next time out.

                                So ever the optimist

As his racing manager Ginger bollocks said on twitter for a week straight beforehand, there would be no excuses for him

He hasnt a chance in the race, he couldnt beat Quilixios getting weight with his ideal conditions and Quilixios would be only a small small place chance in the race itself
