Last year's winner went very close to winning again this year after being heavily punted into favourite. Could easily see the same again happening to Protektorat. At 14/1 and bigger on the exchange he definitely is the 'sensible ' and most obvious bet to start off with in the race.
What's the fun in being sensible and obvious. We're brave and fearless Ante Post Punters ! Long live the dream !!!

True but some of us are backing horses that won't go near the race at lesser prices than 14/1. He needs to be in the book first then build on it.

I'm with you. I am not as "brave and fearless" as I suggested. I have him in the book for 2025 and I was on him this year at 33/1. Best single priced winner for me at 2024 Festival. Also have Il Etait Temps and Gaelic Warrior in my Ryanair 2025 team. Am now seeking my 2025 version of Protektorat at 33/1 or bigger. Hence the Bronn and The Real Whacker out the box thinking.

I'm not everyone Lobos .. , As you say . the Previous winner should be the Starting point ..
Only thing that concerns me is , if Dan Skelton might aim Grey Dawning here instead of the Gold Cup.
But Protektorat is in the team already . .

          • Not that I'd be backing any Nicholls horses after the weekend, but Ginny's Destiny currently showing as entered at Newton Abbot over 2m4f on Saturday.

            Entries close at midday.

            • A nice pipe opener that would leave exactly 4 weeks until the Paddy Power Gold Cup

Good post this, I think we’re all guilty of getting too creative and ignoring the obvious sometimes.
                14/1 does seem fair…

Yep, exactly that. Prep for PP chase. Although Stage Star broke the stat this season, most PP winners have had a prep.

Think he's being aimed at the Charlie Hall? Same pipe opener comment applies though

PN said PP at the weekend. Following Stage Star route. May get a KG entry as well.

                      • Ginny's Destiny "Had a fantastic season last year, his first year with us, he won three Cheltenham novice on the trot. He ran very well in the Spring, he was second in the Turners and then he was second in the Grade 1 at Aintree, so he had a fantastic first season.

"The plan this year is to start him off at Newton Abbot in an intermediate chase on 19 October and then after that he'll obviously have an entry in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

"He's very much in the same mould, same rating as Stage Star last year, loves Cheltenham, jumps really well, and hopefully we'll have a good season again with him.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we entered him in something like the King George later on as I'm sure he'll be even better over three miles."

                          • Ginny's will have to look elsewhere for his PP GC with Newton Abbot lost again.

                            • Thoughts on Journey With Me for this race?

Rated 162. Form over the intermediate trip over fences reads F-1-2-1-3-1.

Thought he ran a very good race in the Punchestown Gold Cup, only weakening away 2 out, but was still travelling well prior to that, when some of the main protagonists were getting pushed along. That was obviously over 3m, so a step back looks on the cards.

Going to be 9, so I guess it's now or never for him. That said, connections have yet to return to Cheltenham with him since his heavy, tired looking fall in the Ballymore.

Not really grade 1 level is he ?
That rating looks wrong also, bit harsh based on that grade 2 he won IMO.
