JP has so many options with his chasers this coming season and it's very difficult to predict where any of them will end up. He'll run one or two quiet to get them good weights in the GN and/or Cheltenham Handicaps. He'll have one for the Ryanair and maybe a couple for the GC. God knows how he's going to shuffle them all. Get it right though and there's some mahoosive prices out there to play with.
    Mine too …..great price still

Another poss switcher at a big price could be Monty’s Star …100-1

I see him much more as one for Gold Cup….,but Henry has been pragmatic before ….and it could easily be soft or worse

The beauty of JP though is that if he has 4 or 5 horses good enough for a race he will run 4 or 5 horses. It's probably easier when they are mixed around with other trainers too as they can all aim their dart at the same race in their own way. I do like Corbett's Cross for the Ryanair though. If that race was ran tomorrow, i think he hoses up.

A lot of love for Corbetts Cross for the Ryanair but I think he would struggle to go the pace and his jumping won't hold up imo. I'd much rather see him aimed at the Grand National, even if he had top weight. The GN fences aren't a test these days(being very polite) and he could easily hunt at the back before making a move late on the second circuit.

Don’t like novices for this unless they are a super start (vautour). Don’t think this lad jumps well enough to win a Ryanair

              I’d be against him

                Derek O'Connor re Corbett's Cross....

"I can see him dropping back in trip and contesting something over 2m4f up to 3m. I can't see him being at his best over that extended trip again, it was just pure class on the day got him through."

Odd comment that, makes little sense.

took the JP chasers list from RoadToCheltenham Twitter. Roughly how they seam to split at the minute with a few quotes, age next march

                    Champ Chase
                    (170) Jonbon - 9yo - Henderson - 2m route mapped out
                    (161) Gentleman De Mee - 9yo - Mullins - same again
                    (157) Dinoblue - 8yo - Mullins - maybe goes here

                    Ryanair
                    (166) Corbetts Cross - 8yo - E.Mullins - DOK allulled to 2m4f/3m?

                    Gold Cup
                    (169) I Am Maximus - 9yo - Mullins
“To win an IN and an EN is impressive. I think he could be a Gold Cup horse, but we don’t know how good he could be because he doesn’t do it at home. He’s quirky, but he has huge ability and until others get the better of him, we won’t know how good he is“

                    (162) Fact To File - 8yo - Mullins
Gold Cup performance….. You know the plan (for next season), he could start off in the JD, then run at xmas , then the DRF and back here. That’s the bones of the plan, but he has to stay right and JP might have other ideas, so I’ll have to have a chat with him about that

                    (155) Spillane's Tower - 7yo - Mangan
”I couldn’t see why he wouldn’t stay three miles but that will be for next year“ small trainer surely would love a GC but could flex

                    (157) Inothewayurthinkin - 7yo - Cromwell
“3M G1 staying chases next season” GC
”Into big boys company, 3M next year.. winter horse possible Irish National either” DOC -
his main target may not be chelt?

                    Mares Chase
                    (153) Limerick Lace - 8yo - Mullins

                    Miss Chelt. / Not considered
                    (152) Iroko - 7yo - Grenhall confirmed the GN is JP plan
                    (159) Capodanno - 9yo - Mullins - non player really
                    (162) Saint Roi - 10yo - Mullins - non player really
                    (147) Indiana Dream - 7yo - Mullins - injury prone?
                    (149) Meetingofthewaters - 8yo - Emmet - GN again??

                    //

can ignore the 2 milers, mares and those missing chelt.

Lots of moving parts but I can see Mangan and Crowell going down the big handicap / 3m route with their 7yo’s, then I am Maximus probably has a tilt at the gold cup to really test his limit?
Corbetts Cross has blown his mark and the Ryanair looks the obvious pick although it wouldn’t be the wildest idea to see Fact To File come back to that trip if there was a vacancy.. especially if GDC was firing on all cylinders

might just have a saver on F2F (Ryanair), GDC (GC) and CC (Ryanair), F2F (GC)

Does it ? He rode him in the NHC so clearly he felt that he was at the end of his stamina levels maybe? JP obviously just loves the bloke and I'm sure would respect what he says ?

                      • Maybe it's me but I don't see Iroko as a National type at all ? Inothewayurthinkin just screams National to me. I Am Maximus must surely go GC unless Willie messes about with his Hcp mark which just isn't his way. I'm even more keen on Corbett's Cross now for Ryanair.......Cheers for that HTO. Legend.

Yea I don’t see the Iroko angle apart from being low down the JP chaser ratings

Gold Cup - Fact To File

I think he'd be effective in a Ryanair but they didn't take on the BANC and win at 6 so not have a tilt at the big one at 7 would be criminal IMO. He could always come back in trip if he doesnt cut the mustard in open company because he does have speed but I think the Gold Cup will be the plan for now.

Gold Cup or Ryanair - Spillane's Tower

Spillane's Tower at 28 on the machine is interesting for the Ryanair IMO. Walk In The Park has been all the rage as a sire and probably disappointed overall but I don't think most of them want marathon trips (for all Inothewayurthinkin does). That being said he's 6 and won over 3m LTO so he could fit in the either/or category depending on how he gets on in open company.

                              Ryanair - Iroko

Not sure he's as effective over 3m yet. After his chase debut OG said 'On a tighter track like Kempton on better ground you could go three miles, but we will see how we go. The Kauto Star could be considered. If it is soft ground at Cheltenham he would probably stay at two and a half miles and if it was quick he would go over three miles'. Won at the festival over 2m4f and given his prep and layoff I think his run in the Turners can be marked up.

                              Festival Handicap

                              Too early to say

Grand National - I Am Maximus, Corbett's Cross and Inothewayurthinkin

I Am Maximus and Corbett's Cross have marks that take handicaps off the table and Inothewayurthinkin looks like he wants 9m so Aintree beckons.

                              • I backed Iroko for the Ryanair in the summer but they've since said he'll be targeted at the National. Which wouldn't make him look a great Ryanair bet at this point... I'd cash it out if I could.

Indiana Dream another interesting JP chaser. For all he's a horrible record for an antepost bet. Not got an OR (152 actually maybe) but an RPR of 149 after just one chase start is right up there last year.
