I suppose if he does throw KOK in as a pacemaker you know they mean business and the CH would still very much be an option.

That is a viable thought process...................

      • Townend riding Lossiemouth is the plan at Kempton I've heard. All systems go to take on CH. Assume he'll get a ride in the KG. Who is on Spillane's Tower and Corbetts Cross?

          • So BDA beats SM and goes into the CH pot, The Hill beats Lossiemouth and she drops into the MH. Elliott shits himself as can't decide whether to risk losing to The Hill or Lossiemouth. Sits on a dead horse and lets someone else make the call

This will be his first run for a year up against an improving mare whose race fit.
Be some feat if he’s back to his best , so he has to be vulnerable imo.
Yes, I hope he’s back and shows his best or very near it,but I would also be happy with a close race, then win or lose he’s still there with a chance come March, when he’s got a race under his belt, and we can all enjoy an exciting build up.
The one big thing I’m afraid of is him getting well beat, which the pessimist in me does genuinely fear.
Anyway not long now, thank fck!!

                • I still can't believe they will take each other on before March. Willie has said before that he likes QF's, SF's and Finals and that would be a Final IMO.

If it does happen then fantastic. Let the fireworks begin. It could be a demolition job for CH if he is back to his very best forcing the Mare back down the MH route . If he's not, then it'll be a close race and Lossiemouth will have every chance of taking his scalp. Like you say , it'll be sad if CH proves to be a shadow of his former self but that has to be a possibility.

Someone who knows the camp. Obviously things can change with the weather/ferry problems but Townend is going across and he's also going to ride Banbridge. Back at Leopardstown for 27th so someone else will I presume be riding Ballyburn.

Not sure I can remember the last time we had a big clash of the British and Irish main hopes before Cheltenham. Just hoping they've got CH right and I'd want Nico to go from the front. Don't let it be a middling pace and see what both horses have got.

Not sure whether to read into the fact he's going over for Lossiemouth but not Ballyburn, but I'd assume it's due to having the two chances in grade 1s at Kempton and then the grade 1s the next day at Leopardstown.

                    • Thanks Denman. Very exciting times.

Maybe Ballyburn isn't going to travel? Is that definitely happening as well?

                        Yeah from what I'm aware.

Incredible stuff. Can't believe these match ups are actually going to happen this early. Perhaps Willie has been given the nod that both Constitution Hill and Sir Gino aren't running!

I think it’s happening because both trainers have questions that they need answers to as soon as is possible
And this is the best way.

Yeah maybe. Very, very, very unlikely Willie though and Nicky somewhat to want it to happen this early. I still think there will be some surprises , twists and turns. Maybe just me......

                                No idea. I was surprised.

For Lossiemouth, you've got race fitness on your side, you've seen CH's poor gallop and Paul and Willie probably want an answer on whether she's good enough. CH 2 worst performances over 2m for me have been at Kempton as well.

If she's beaten handily, they then know she's a Mares horse again. If she's only beaten a couple of lengths, they may feel she'll be better at Cheltenham. If she wins, she goes Champion Hurdle.

If she's beaten handily, I'd like to see them do something different with her than the Mares though.
