State Man is a good horse, but he got his arse handed to him in the Champion Hurdle by Constitution Hill and even when winning it last season, it was hardly with ease. Irish Point made him battle all the way to the line. On ratings alone it wasn't even close to a decent running of the Champion Hurdle, with only 1 horse in the 160's making the line up. State Man should have been dotting up, IMO.
I'll put my tin hat on and say State Man has taken advantage of a woeful division in Ireland. The only horse of note he's beat is Honeysuckle and she was 9 when he did he beat her, so maybe a little harsh on her. For all that, he's consistent and keeps running for connections, of which I tip my proverbial hat to.
