    Found out very little today

1 in 15, going back to the early 90s, if that's your style to find winners and get a bit on confirmation bias then fair enough

No correct way of doing it
Wasn't about finding winners. Just confirming that inexperienced hurdlers can and have won the Churdle.

          Fair enough

I hope Constitution Hill destroys them all, at least we've got an exciting race this year

and exciting without needing to over hype Anzadam .... he's not relevant
I've only backed Constitution Hill. Not backed Anzadam and would only be interested in him in a specials on which of Willies to finish best placed at the right price.

No doubt he's achieved more than Anzadam. But not every race went to the horse that achieved more previously. Sometimes you just need to trust your eyes when watching a horse and form or whatever is irrelevant. IMO opinion Anzadam is a superior animal to State Man, just like I think Lossiemouth is.

I don't think State Man is past it. I just think he needs specific race conditions, which he gets in the small fields in those grade 1s at Ireland, that he won't get at Cheltenham. I've no doubt he'll win another grade 1 at 2m in Ireland, as Anzadam will hopefully go chasing, BDA will go chasing, Lossiemouth is versatile and there's not much else.

As you say, we should have an exciting race this year and I'll be cheering Constitution Hill on. Even though I've backed him, I still came on here and gave my opinion on how disappointing I thought he was yesterday. I'm not sure he's the same horse he was but we'll find out in March if he is at his best and if not, if that's still good enough to win.

          • Anzadam has had 4 starts over hurdles.

Con Hill had 5 before winning the Champion.
Think Buveur D'air had 5 also.
Epatante had just the 5 over hurdles also.

            admittedly at different/various levels.
No grade one form yet for Anzadam.
It's his form he's light on, not experience really, but what he has done he's done looking capable of much much more.

The inexperienced ones that do go for it , which admittedly is a small percentage, clearly have to very good. Anzadam may fall into that small but illustrious bracket.

“He’s in the Champion Hurdle, but maybe we should wait for Aintree. That looks appealing and he’s still only five.
“The jump he put in at the third last I thought was extraordinary and showed me that we’ll have no trouble going novice chasing with him when we want.
“We’ll see how far we can go with hurdling and see what his owners would like to do.”
French-bred Anzadam also won a Grade 3 on Irish debut at Fairyhouse in November by an eased down six and a-half lengths.
Paddy Power kept Anzadam unchanged at 10/1 for the Champion Hurdle.
Let's hope they let him take his chance. He deserves it.

Laafi given an opening mark of 136, Beacon Edge dropped to 145.

That would put Anzadam around the 155 mark, without taking into account the ease of his victory. You could argue he could have won by 20-30 lengths had they wanted to, in which case you'd be looking at a much higher potential rating.

State Man is currently rated 168, taking them literally do I think Anzadam could usurp State Man as connections number 1 Champion Hurdler? Absolutely. I would already have Anzadam in the low 160's, allowing for ease of victories to date. I think he could be a serious player, whether this year or the next.

Edit. Must add, I'm a sucker for an Authorized, so there may be some bias in the above

                • Should strike while Iron is hot. No idea what form he'd be in next season. With BDA going Mares, Lossiemouth disappointing last time and State Man looking out of sorts , why not take his chance. Anything could happen to Constitution Hill in the race as we saw at the last flight Saturday. They'd be silly not to run. He looks top drawer to me.

                  • If they were serious about a Champion Hurdle bid then they would of gone International surely? He's beat a bunch of 4yos followed by a once raced novice and an ageing/aged 3 miler. Thrown from that into the Champion Hurdle is some difference, especially as only a 5yo with 4 runs to his name. They have taken it easy with first couple of runs for the yard so suspect they will continue with that plan, targeting next year for the grade 1's. They stuck with it with Lossiemouth last year and no reason to think it will change here.

Think it depends how Willie's horses fair in the Irish Champion.
Do you think they would have stuck to the plan last season has State Man got sick before declarations ?

Willie will leave him out of the big one if he thinks he has a decent chance with his others.
I doubt he'll let a Champion hurdle pass by without him having a serious contender.

And if chasing is the plan next season then even more reason to take your chance.
