What a horse Galopin is though. Thought he was beat coming to the last but just poured it on again. Sensational. I do love this sport.
He’s a proper Gold Cup horse
The fact you thought he was beat and then he wins going away??
He’s got everything a top stayer wants.

Wouldn't be making any major decisions today

Walsh did everything right for the horse, got him settled and gave him every chance and he came at the right time to win his race.
He just cannot beat GDC over that distance let alone the extra of a gold cup.
Big shame for the race, but there yer go!!

          • It is really quite a simple decision. No need to complicate the issue. If JP wants FTF to win at Cheltenham he has to go Ryanair. He aint winning the Gold Cup all the time GDC is in Town.

            • The turbo GDC gets after the last every time at leopardstown is just brilliant

              • The Question is would JP prefer finishing 2nd in a GC with a slight chance of winning or win a Ryanair.

It's what sets him apart IMO from past Gold cup legends.
He almost has a third gear when it starts hurting.

Unbelievable sight. He's definitely improved from last season which is a scary thought

                      Yup

He'd just lose by further at Cheltenham. Longer distance and stiffer uphill finish in the last couple of furlongs.

if he was mine he would still be running in the gold cup though

                      • He is an unbelievable horse. Stays, has pace, completely different horse to what he was as a novice in his manner and that's helped him over the last couple of years. Incredible staying chaser.

Something does need to take him on though at Cheltenham from the front and make it a test.

He's far far too good for them when he can set it up for himself. And he'll very very likely be far too good if something went even faster from the front, but they can't let him do what he does at Leopardstown at Cheltenham as he'll just outsprint them from the 2nd last and has proven himself unbeatable against the current lot under those conditions.

Those two in it, go off 8/1 and 13/2. Favourite? Gentleman De Mee at 4/1. JP must have done his nuts that day. Gabynako 2nd favourite as well and Folcano went off shorter than Galopin Des Champs.

I can remember most people on here seeming to be on him so looking back, it's hard to remember him going off at 8s.
