I'd need to go back and watch but wasn't his most recent win a bit like that? (Not that impressive until near the end)?

Maybe Willie will have to re-assess him not being a 3 mile horse? Based on the DRF run he'd get hugely out paced in an Arkle (not that he's going)
He's stayed on well at the finish in a fair few races, yeah, yet they tried making him a Champion Hurdle horse last season

All of his chase starts he's looked like needing a trip. He had jumped well, generally, but seemed slower than normal at the weekend. Hopefully it's not an issue and they don't make excuses not to turn up as I still think he could turn out for a place, though Ballyburn looks a difficult horse to beat now.

I'd say they'll be set on Fairyhouse now myself - it will be a touch weaker class and he can go there fresh

Yeah I wasn't against that Champion Hurdle idea at the time but hindsight is showing that to be wrong!

Yeh Ballyburn looks the one to beat, but not as impervious as some other favs do .... but then again looks like it could end up wit h5 or 6 for Willie, a couple for Gordon and a token British no-hoper

You sure that’s not a handicap?

No surprise as Jonbon is the only grade 1 top
                    level 2miler in the uk.
Sir Gino may be of course, and I suspect he is, but yet to prove that.

                      • That's as good a field as could be expected, love that!
It's an actual test to over come as a novice.

Fully expect him to do it, but that's so much more informative than anything else we'll see, for me anyway

                        • Dare I say it, sir ginos novice chase debut not as extraordinary as first appeared?

Ballyburn ran yesterday over a trip that should be much more comfortable for him, and he was good, but nothing special was he? He saw off croke park comfortably enough over whats meant to be his perfect trip without looking a world beater. If hed ran against majborough the day before where do we think he'd have finished?

The arkle match may be much closer than what the odds currently suggest.

Well he’s only had one chase run, so yes it is a test against experienced senior horses.
The way Matata races should make it a test for SG as well

It's not often mentioned but Gino was getting 6lbs that day too, but i do think he had an awful lot left in the tank, he sauntered home after the last.

I think it's more a case of Maj's performance on Saturday not getting the recognition it should - he was 4s slower the Solness, but those 2 races the only 2 on the whole card that were faster than standard. His appearance of scruffy jumping, even though the IQ Data suggests he was gaining at every fence, probably makes that performance look a little less polished than it was.

They are far and away the best 2 mile novice chasers about and it should be a cracking battle.

The cross border form line through Touch Me Not shows L'Eau Du Sud is best of the rest but still a fair way off the front 2.

Not sure it's his perfect trip either, that's ignoring the evidence of the race we've just seen

To answer, I think Sir Gino would've finished ahead of Majborough yesterday, and quite easily.

I also think Nico is just going to be better in the finish than Mark Walsh, if it came to that, and that Nico is just better for the Arkle and 2 mile chasers than Mark Walsh

For me, Majborough just makes the market. He's not a bad result for me by any stretch, but one of the matches I'm confident on

Without Sir Gino, Majborough would be as equally strong an opinion to win the Arkle.
