If he settles impaire will take some beating over 3 miles as he will have much the best turn of foot
He could be like A Plus Tard
That 2/2m4f finishing burst can be lethal against 3 mile plodders
I don't know if you have seen the Road To Cheltenham show, but what got me was Paul Townend seemed to think Ballyburn was a shoo-in for the Turners before they changed it to a handicap, which, to my mind, means they must have had designs on Impaire Et Passe going elsewhere, whether that means the BANC or missing the festival, I don't know for sure, but it makes me think the reaction about the race changing was more geared towards Ballyburn being re-routed than where Impaire Et Passe ends up. Maybe he just didn't want them to clash!
I think IEP would run a big race in the BANC too, it's now whether he's allowed to.

Gidleigh Park: RP have an article tonight stating GP is due back at Windsor this week end. I think it’s a 2m race. Cannot see GP being suited by that trip - does anyone have him on their BANC radar?
I have him backed for the BANC but have given up on that. I don't know what Harry Fry is doing with this horse but he has wasted 2 years of his career.
Me to re BANC but I’m confused by the 2m entry. Mind you Fry did his apprentice estoppel with Nicholls so should be adept at turning stayers into 2 milers or attempting to as per Caldwell Potter.

He had an irregular heartbeat when pulling up on chase debut
Not sure the trainer can be blamed for that
And his campaign as a novice hurdler went pretty well didn't it?

Quite often trainers will enter staying chasers over a shorter trip so they can learn to jump at speed like they would have to in a championship race. Harry Fry may have other ideas but he doesn't look a 2 miler to me.

Many of the comments in his races refer to not settling and I suspect that has held him back at 3m. It maybe that the interim trip suits him best and that The old Turners would have suited him best. I agree he has never looked a 2 miler even over hurdles. For me the risk in trying to get him to ‘jump at speed’(if that is the object) is that it will do nothing to teach him to settle at 3m and the BANC is in my opinion the only realistic option at the Festival.

Funny, I have him down as a new turners (handicap) horse. Runs moderately over an inadequate trip on Saturday then one more run. Just depends whether the capper will count his first run.

All the early season chat from the Mullins camp in the stable tours was that IEP was an Arkle horse - after his Ballymore win Willie had him down as a Champion Hurdler who could give Constitution Hill something to think about. The emergence of Sir Gino and potentially Majborough has maybe made them think to leave the 2m route alone and look for a different road for IEP especially as he seems to have settled a bit better over fences than he did last year hurdling, so it's either Browns or Aintree - Willie seems to be saying Aintree, but now both Paul, Ruby and Daryl Jacob have all come out and said he'd get 3 miles no bother now that he's settling.
Interesting thoughts from some about Gidleigh park.
Definitely agree with Killiney and how he struggled to settle in most of his races, probably down to a lack of pace once upped in trip and no doubt due to opposition when winning a novice hurdle over the minimum at Exeter. I'd also add it can be a trait of walk in the park geldings at the early stages of their careers.
However at no stage in this horses career has he looked outpaced or not fast enough, IMO.
His win over lucky place at Cheltenham on trials day now looks to have actually been a really good trial for the Ballymore, with lucky place now rated 153 with 2 grade 2 wins in open company at the intermediate trip.
He won a bumper over 2 miles, easily, looked plenty quick enough, much quicker than the jukebox man who has looked quite quick himself, even if ultimately he'll be best over 3miles but his trainer has stated he thinks he'd be quick enough for 2 miles, and I also know it's a loose comparison but I'm just highlighting that Gidleigh hasn't looked slow, he's just a giant.
OK his chase debut didn't go great but he has a good reason, but it is quite a concerning one, especially as Harry fry has reported a similar incident in October 2023.
I know peole willl point to him being by a presenting mare, but hes also by walk in the park, and he's not got a bad roll call of 2 mile chasers.
I'm not trying to convince anyone he's a bet in the arkle, but 100/1 at 365 disappears when he wins Friday. Harry fry had been very clear what he thinks of this fella, he wouldn't be running him for a handicap mark, so I can't agree with that hardy.
And can anyone give me some decent evidence from his runs that suggest he's a stayer?

Can't see him beating caldwell potter over 2 miles myself
I'd be a little surprised if caldwell didn't win that race comfortably
He's gonna blast off in front, use his excellent jumping and take the rest out of their comfort zone
I'd imagine nicky and nico would quite like caldwell to win as he will be a good pacemaker for gino in the arkle. Anything other than a comfortable win and Paul will probably go to Aintree instead.
I have a sneaking suspicion caldwell will turn out to be the 2nd best 2 mile novice chaser in britain
Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I see it atm. I was baffled they tried 2m4f with him with how exuberant he was on chase debut and it was no surprise he failed to stay the trip.

I must be mad but I have just backed him at 999/1 on Exchange!

66's for the Arkle would be good value if you're right, unless being a pacemaker means he drops right out at the end. L'eau Du Sud is 12's in comparison
