  • Tullyhill not doing much for the Majborough form there to be honest.

I would read zilch into that race.

It was a Mullins benefit job for his novice chasers. He had 6 of the runners in the race and filled the first 4 spots.

Ran ok, probably needs a bit further. Short of top level though.
Winner was good for a first chase.
40 available for Arkle if anyone fancies that.

          Why not?

I would say that all of Mistergif, Tullyhill and Asian Master were trying and none were being held back and it doesn't say much for Majborough's form that Tullyhill and Asian Master have finished behind Mistergif despite both having a chase run under their belts.

I actually thought JJ was giving Mistergif a gentle ride but he's ran on well at the the end to win.

          • Asian Master could do with a jockey, not usually one to bash but that was a woeful effort.

I'm always sceptical of horses from one yard taking each other on. They can run it to suit another (like I think they did today), have some half fit etc... Mistergif was the one that came for money last night so not much of a surprise he got up.

One of Tullyhill or Asian Master (or both maybe) will probably end up in the 2m4f handicap novice chase this year.

Willie will be thinking differently, it's probably why they are all taking each other on. Can go for the handicap or even keep some back as second season novices and get a mark next season.

Yeah, don’t see why we can’t look at the form there in relation to Maj and the Arkle.
Its possible that Mistergif is actually a better chaser than hurdler, would not be the first to improve for chasing!!
Hes beaten Tullyhill not as well as Maj did fair enough but agree that its fair to point out that Tullyhill had the benefit today of a run behind him.

                • "He had one win last year in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown and we’ve decided to go chasing with him this time around. We started out thinking he was one for the staying division, but his style of racing meant we had to come back to two miles to win with him. We’re starting out here over that trip again and will see how he goes. He does jump well"

Everyone Mullins mentions jumps well in the Sporting Life they don't. The above was what he said about Lisnagar Fortune who jumped like a snooker table.

                  • My take on the race was that Mistergif was initially not being ridden to win, but then had to pick up the pieces when it fell apart at the end. Jockey on Asian Master is criminal and Tullyhill needs to go left handed (and jump considerably better)

                    • Tullyhill jumped left at nearly every fence so in my opinion that run can be marked up. Personally I was impressed with the winner but may be biased as I have 100/1 slip.

                        Good summation that.
