  • Impressed with Jango considering first run of season and first in a chase taking on a pair that have had a run and won. Not sure on trip though for Cheltenham. Dropping to 2m will be taking on faster horses but then upped to 3m looks dodgy on breeding at this stage of his career. Will have a lot of weight if going intermediate handicap considering Springwell Bay already rated 145 and Jango was 146 over hurdles. Will be handicapped at least 150 on that performance. But, it looked perfect for the horse so maybe they will be happy to carry the weight, or skip till Aintree.

    • Same owner has Jinko Blue who Henderson says could go 3m. He'll go BANC and Jango Arkle imo. Nice split . Thought Jango would do that today.

At this stage that looks the most likely outcome. Any good in the description and he'd be a no show.

          Other way around, I'd say.

Jingko Blue was keen enough at Uttoxeter, which is also a sharp, flat enough track. He's also by Great Pretender, who has produced the likes of Greanteen, Great Field, Mr Mole and your new queen, Lossiemouth.

Jango Baie has just scooted up the Cheltenham Hill on his first attempt, and looks as though he'd get plenty further.

Be interesting how they place them from here. Was Softer at Uttoxeter when Jingko won. Jango showed a good turn of foot today on quicker ground so he'd look more likely coming back in trip of the two imo. Two nice young chasers though.

              • I’m not covering Jango for BANC at this stage.
Hes had one run over fences and trainer in no rush for his 2nd run. So guess is he has one more run before March.
So imo of the 3 likely options I would say right now that Arkle is more likely than BANC, but neither race might be favourite.
                Hope I’m wrong.

                • Think how good the old Turners would have been this season had they left it be. A good chunk of the best novices we've seen so far would have had that race as their preferred choice I reckon.

Last few have been decent enough races apart from the GDC/Bob Olinger farce of a race. Typically been more competitive than the other chases so the move to the handicap wasn't really needed IMO.

Hopefully still see some of the higher rated ones go for it instead of racing over the wrong trip. A front running good jumper can defy weight at Cheltenham.

Hendo said after the race he looks a stayer but he said the same re Jingko. It'll boil down to who they think is best equipped to drop in trip if they are to be split.

I didn’t see him saying he looks a stayer.
The way he jumped and traveled and the speed he showed told me he’s 2 miler for the festival, and probably a mid distance suited horse for his absolute optimum.
His next entry will be very interesting.

One think I am pretty sure of, he won’t have them both in a BANC!!

                          • He added: “He has got speed and he really did quicken nicely at the end there and still went away. We thought that Jingo Blue might be the one to go for the Scilly Isles. Maybe this fellow might go a little bit further. There are still a couple of others to come in the three mile route, but we have got to spread them out a bit. I do think two and a half miles is perfect for him though, but we won’t be getting in that handicap chase at the Festival with him.

Could end up anywhere based on that !!

                              I think Nicky still thinks it's a 0-145.

                              • Jango would get the BANC trip imo, he’s just won on the new course, being fairly keen on his first start of the season (expected) and his debut over fences.

Another half mile of todays trip on the old course with a bit more experience wouldn’t be an issue for me. His breeding may not suggest it but to the eye looked good to me and as people have said jumped really well.

I think we forget how different the 2 course are at times, the long straight of the new course takes some getting compared to the sharper old course with a lot shorter straight, they come down hill for a good couple furlongs on the old course then a couple with the hill.
