  • Todays action might have given hendo some thoughts on SG, surely the arkle looks the easier option right now.

Don’t think they would consider going 3 m with him after watching that
I'd much prefer him to leau du sud at this point of the british point who just looks like third time lucki 2.0 to me. They may both be flops but I'd say caldwell potter has the higher ceiling. He was a 13lb better hurdler and has had a lot less runs.

I'd imagine they may clash at some point. Hopefully in the kingmaker at Warwick. The race that edwardstone beat third time lucki in before winning the arkle and jonbon won before finishing 2nd.

Don’t think today makes any difference
Lossiemouth had to win that in the conditions and how the race was run
The Arkle looks competitive to me and it’s imo getting a bit late for SG getting experience needed.
Plus of course, the CH is a far bigger prize than the Arkle, and he’s right in the mix.

        • Bit of a surprise from Croke Park but put himself firmly in the BANC picture for sure now. Firefox will be much better when dropping back down so no damage done there.

          • I'd say Firefox has zero chance in an arkle myself after that

A horse with the latent ability to win an arkle doesn't lose that.

I'd be putting Firefox, slade steel and mystical power bets in the bin at this point.

            • Yeah I'd be happy with that from Firefox, over a trip that's way longer than his optimum, on ground way too fast and given a dreadful ride by Keith O Donohoe, he's just been touched off.

Drop him back to 2m and let his jumping (which was very good again today) do the talking.

Agreed I'd be writing them first 2 off for Arkle prospects

                Inthepocket
                Impaire et Passe
                Ballyburn
                Leau du Sud
                Down Memory Lane

Top 5 prospects currently for me, in that order. Would maybe mark up DML more if he werent given such an easy lead. ITP and LDS look the 2 sharpest jumpers from what we've seen currently.

                • Writing off Firefox but having Impaire Et Passe as an Arkle winner on the back of yesterday is absolute pocket talk tbh.

                    Is it really?

Might be worth doing some sectionals on each race

                    Impaire et passe 11st12 2m5 1/2
                    Firefox 11st10 2m4

                    from 3 out..

Impaire et passe 3/4l down on the drinmore race 2 out

IEP up 1L at the last

Impaire et passe wins by around 4L by finishing post under hands and heels, Drinmore race obviously under full ride.

Agree with this, the supreme form is muck. Couldn’t have Firefox on my mind for anything at Cheltenham

You can buy my slade steel one if you want

                          Currently value estimated at 35p

The sectionals of a 2m5 and a 2m4 chase don't mean much when discussing the merits of winning a future 2m race.

Impaire Et Passe would have won the Drinmore today, he's a better middle distance horse then Firefox, hence the view that Firefox will be better down in trip, I'm not sure you can say the same for IEP.

Im talking about the finishing kicks for each, after sedate enough paces set

If firefox cant get past a boat in Croke Park in a sprint, thats good enough for me to write him off, and hence having IEP ahead of him

                              • Impaire et Passe wallops Firefox over any distance. Not sure that's outlandish. Over hurdles IEP posted an RPR of 163 over 2m compared with Firefoxes 140, just as one measure of how much better he is.

Firefox has ran over 2m4 twice now over fences and we've just seen him lose a speed battle with Croke Park of all horses. He's only an Arkle horse in Elliott's eyes (and he wouldn't know what a proper 2m chaser looks like). Who is Elliott's best ever 2 mile chaser - Found A Fifty?
