Ballyburn and IEP are so far clear of the other non Mullins horses that will go to the Arkle ability wise that they only need to jump around safely to beat them. Sir Gino is the only non Mullins one who could step up to their ability but looks like he'll stay hurdling and his performance yesterday still a fair bit below what Ballyburn and IEP achieved over hurdles, albeit plenty of scope to improve.
The Arkle this year looks easy, especially if you don't want to get involved antepost. Pick the horse Paul is on - banker material as the rest of them are a fair bit behind the Mullins horses ability wise (a stone or more) and they won't be making 14+ lengths on them with their jumping.
8 of the last 10 Arkles won by the favourite and each one within the top 2 in the race on hurdle ratings.
Before someone tells me Inthepocket has the ability, his 2m novice hurdle form is rubbish. Beat Strong Leader at Aintree by 2 lengths which isn't strong and hammered at the DRF and Cheltenham. He's a stone behind the 2 Mullins horses ability wise and his jumping isn't making the difference.
Leau Du Sud is nearly 2 stone behind them over hurdles. He's going to be falling out the back of the TV in the Arkle. He'll be beat once he meets one decent horse pre Cheltenham.
Firefox is a professional loser. He beat a not 100% fit Ballyburn in a sprint and has beat a massive dodgepot in Ile Atlantique in a finish. But when he's been asked for an effort in a finish in a race run at a decent pace, he finds himself losing.
Not sure who else their is - Down Memory Lane win a very slow novice hurdle and a slow novice chase where he dictated the pace. Massive difference in those to an Arkle.
Mullins could have the top 3 in this easy if he sends his best here. Just need to know which one it will be - Ballyburn and IEP miles clear with maybe It's for Me and Majborough able to get towards their ability. Rest of the field aren't good enough from an ability POV.
