  • Imagine we’ll get a similar race at the DRF as two seasons ago. Where

    El Fabiolo
    Dysart Dynamo
    Appreciate It
    Saint Roi
    Flame Bearer

All ran. (with the outcome not being what the market suggested)
And that dictated Paul’s ride and the pecking order come March.
I expect the same this season.
Obviously no Turners to bump a few up (mark permitting) this time of course.

Personally i won’t be getting too focused on both pinning down the right horse and getting the trip right for his novice chasers (bar the obvious stayers) off the back of quotes and from their initial runs. Imo so many factors count against getting involved too early this season (No Turners, No Christmas 2m race, Domination of Willie etc)

That said - Majborough, being with JP will fit outside a lot of the usual unknowns.
But Willie tends to be fairly reluctant to go 3 miles with his novices until he really has to.
And given his age, i’d say it’s event likelier to be the case with him. Even if he were not to come out on top at the DRF.

    • ….Mullins re IEP;

“We decided not to go chasing with him last season, but that’s what he’ll do this season. We’d like to get him out soon if we can and I think he has a chance to be a top novice chaser this season. He seemed very suited by mid-range trips over hurdles, but we’ll work out what way to point him based on what he does on the track. If we feel he needs a mid-range trip, we might have to wait for Fairyhouse or Aintree with him which will be Cheltenham’s loss, but there we are, nothing stays the same.“

      • Majborough...

He’s going novice chasing. The first day he walked into the place, I said to JP that he looked a fully-fledged chaser already. He was such a big, mature horse. I can’t wait to see him over a fence. Four-year-olds don’t get quite the allowance that they used to, but that doesn’t worry me. His schooling over fences has been very good. I’d be open minded about what his best trip might prove to be.

He goes novice chasing. We’ve always held him in high regard, but it hasn’t quite happened on the track to the extent that we expected yet. He’s getting older now and will hopefully get better as he matures. You’d think he’d be a staying novice chaser, but he can pull hard, so he might be better off starting at shorter trips.

          Another for the Arkle

            • Impaire et Passe declared over 2m5. One of my favourite horses last season, Answer to Kayf, also declared, as is Staffordshire Knott.

              • Caldwell Potter declared over 2m at Carlisle on Sunday. I can't imagine Nicholls has had many runners there - 1 in the last 12 months and 15 all time according to ATR.

                • Just noticed there’s a 2m1s beginners chase at Clonmel on Tuesday.

Why isn’t Impaire Et Passé going for that if he’s an Arkle type? Surely better than running over closer to 3m.

WPM hasn’t entered anything in the race for context.

The beginners in Clonmel is limited to a low hurdle rating. I think the next eligible beginners over 2M in the one in Fairyhouse Mid December. The Irish programme really does make it difficult to start off 2M chasers, there must be nearly a month gap between the one at Navan and Fairyhouse.

                    • If Waterford Wispers turns IEP over tomorrow, then do we have a serious Browns contender?…….dramatic price cut ?

Surely he must come into consideration based upon the Pipe run and the views around BDA and QDB chances for the Browns?

Think Tom Segal fancies him for the Browns?

I know chasing is a whole different game to hurdling, but IEP is rated two stone better than Waterford Wispers over hurdles, so he shouldn’t get a look in should he?

I think he's interesting. But I think he was too keen in the Pipe and thus got out stayed by BDA . So I'm not sure the extra trip will necessarily suit. He might have learnt to settle, but I'd want to see it. He was also carrying 7lb less than BDA and QDB that day. So he'd be after all but a 9lb swing with BDA and BDA's jumping looked decent on debut too. I'm not sure I can make a case for him improving passed BDA presently.

I actually took a wild price about him on BFX for the Arkle as I could see him coming back in trip. But in reality, I think he's a great candidate for the new mid-trip novice chase.

Just looked at the prices and only two bookmakers are quoting WW for the Browns, both 66/1, so they agree with you EE

So a good round of jumping, nice introduction and beaten a fair way by IEP puts him squarely in line for the Turners chase, as long as he doesn’t improve more than 10lbs for a fence?
