In RP tonight - Slade Steel pencilled in for the 2m4f Beginners Chase won by American Mike (vs Fact To File) at Navan this coming weekend. "Slate Steel could return at Navan next weekend," the trainer said. "There's a beginners' chase there over two and a half miles which would look up his street. He seems really good at home."

Quilixios also began at 2m 3f before stepping up to 3m and then coming back down to 2m for the Arkle just last year. Maybe the yard don't like to give their novices too much of a jumping test on chasing debut, letting them find their feet over further before dropping back to the minimum trip?
