  • Ile Atlantiques problem has always been his lack of testicles in a finish. Until he’s proven that he can tough it out in a battle, I’d not be touching him.

    • Paul really impressed with Ill Atlantique today...

"He has a real cut at his fences," said Townend. "I let him learn on the job too, I let him figure it out for himself once or twice. I could have let him out and wing everything but he learned a lot more the way things went today.
"He rides a much stronger horse this year. Last season he wasn't seeing out his races but I think he has just needed time and a fence will help there too. I like him a lot."

      • …Ile Atlantique;

“I just let him learn today on it, he had to figure it out a bit himself,” said Townend. “We could have gone out and winged everything, but he would learn more if he could do it himself.

“He rides a stronger horse this year. There were question marks of him seeing out his races before, but I think he has just needed all the time. A fence will help him with that as well, and maturity. He’s fast from one side to the other. Hopefully, he is going to have a good novice chase season.

“I like him a lot – I loved him last year and he didn’t fulfil what I thought he was going to do. I just think sitting on him, he’s so big this year, and he has taken this much time.”

        • The horse has ability. He jumped well too. Won like i expected.

Issue is the thing between his ears

groundhog day all over again if backing him antepost after that. Got to see him actually win a good race first.

He wins a good race, that’s current price gone.

            • Just watched the race back again and his jumping was superb. He was really quick and low over them. Not sure he had that much left at the end. He pulled away as he jumped them silly. Arkle would still be fav for me. Could be a Ryanair horse in 2026.....you heard it here first !

              • Realistically he won’t be winning the Arkle or the BANC….

He’s hard to place but if he was in another yard he’d be campaigned towards the 2m4f novice handicap chase if Cheltenham is the target. The Fairyhouse grade 1 Spillane’s Tower won last year looks tailor made for him now imo.

                  Mid trips do look ideal

He feels like a very important one in the puzzle

                      • The race Dancing City runs in tomorrow is the same that Embassy Gardens hosed up in last season.

Not sure it will tell us an awful lot, but I do think Punchestown suits Dancing City. I do still have that concern with him that maybe Cheltenham doesn't quite suit him as much as 'flatter' tracks, at the top level. Time will tell with that though.

                        • Majborough very weak for the Arkle, and been a little uneasy for the BANC in recent weeks too.

No entry, no making use of his age allowance early on in the season, I just wonder if they'll not bother with chasing this season, as it's getting late on to get going now.

Waiting on some nice soft ground for him? Limited number of beginners

                              Maybe.

As said, being only 5 he'd be a prime candidate to start out early, due to getting the age allowance. I wonder if they'd bother now.

Drifted plenty today in the Arkle market too.

The drift is alarming. But I did read somewhere that he was being targeted at a beginners chase at Xmas. Which makes sense given Lossie had half a season off last year. So that’s not concerning me.

Edit: The Irish Racing video- Willie says he’s ready to run but could wait for a beginners at Leopardstown at Xmas.
