  • 5 year olds don't win Novice Chases at Cheltenham Festival and 10 year olds don't win Open Chases either. If my Nan says it then it's true. Trust my Nan ! For she is wise. LOL.

Unfortunately that will need to be arranged via a seance nowadays but her guidance regarding jumps racing lives within me forever.................

                • So Ballyburn entered up in 2m 3f Beginners Chase on Saturday. What happened to the 'they'll start him out over 2m and keep him at that distance until he gets beat' shout from several on here? What do you make of that entry ? Step up, drop down??

He's not been declared yet, but in the event he is declared - I'll be watching his jumping. Too many rumours that schooling hasn't gone well, and if it hasn't, stepping him up in trip is the obvious route

This is the same race that GW began in last year, who then went up in trip to 2m6, and back down to 2m for the Arkle. So make of that what you will!

Would not be the first time that several on here got it wrong!!
Although in this case I don’t think an extra 3 furlongs matters much, and the entry imo has no bearing on eventual target for March.
I don’t make much of the entry myself, apart from the fact that they are thinking about chasing with him.
Like Odin says……he ain’t been declared yet, and if he is his jumping will be very interesting!!

                        • My guess is Ballyburn takes up neither engagement this weekend. It gives chance to review Stateman/Lossie/CH and work on his jumping if the rumours are true

You’ve got a few bites already here mate, which is what I’m assuming you were after

Il etait Temps ran over 2m2f at Thurles seasonal debut last season.

Gaelic Warrior ran over 2m3f twice including seasonal debut.

Hunters Yarn was just over 2m on seasonal debut.

Facile Vega was 2m1f at Navan weekend just past last year but the ground rules out WPM runners more or less this year.

Thats WPM’s 3 Arkle runners last year and the perceived stable first choice in FV before he blew up. As we have known for years with WPM the distance for his novices, hurdlers or chasers, it doesn’t really matter where they start off at which I’m sure you know. The one thing he rarely does is start them at 3m unless they are seen as proper dour stayers. As Odin has said as well, it’s only an entry. If he doesn’t take it up I can see him running at Fairyhouse as El Fab, Blue Lord and Hunters Yarn did. There’s also a beginners at Punchestown first week in Dec that Ferny Hollow ran in if that card is still there. Between himself and Impaire Et Passé will probably be split between those 2 days imo.

                            • Willie has said he doesn’t care what the trip is when he sets them out in a beginner
                              Said it for years now.
its the step up in grade and what happens then that matters for Cheltenham

                              • Gidleigh park declared for Ascot on Friday.
Excited to see this lad over a fence.
Always seemed to want to go a bit quicker than the jockey allowed over hurdles.
I'm hoping he'll be an arkle horse rather than banc.
