  • Said it before and I'll say it again - I'd be very shocked if Slade Steel runs in an Arkle.

Inthepocket the yard's clear #1 for that race.

    • Henry on SS...

"He had a brilliant campaign last season and won the Supreme Novices' at Cheltenham. I thought he ran well in the beginners' chase at Navan. He jumped okay, the winner was rated only a little behind him over hurdles, so we're happy enough. He got a little bit tired from the second-last, so we'll get another beginners' chase into him soon."

      • If he thought that his jumping was ok then he must have run out of superlatives after watching In the pocket!!
World of difference in regards to an arkle imo.
Still horse deserves another beg chase, and see how he fares then.

Get some decent priced ones onside and try and roll up a couple? When i started, i did about 3 races. The year after it was the whole card
I'd probably lose too much with failed roll ups!

"I was impressed with Better Days Ahead on Sunday and the Drinmore is an option," said Elliott. "In an ideal world, you'd have three runs before Cheltenham so he could go Drinmore and then Christmas or Christmas and somewhere else.
"Farren Glory, Croke Park and Shecouldbeanything will run in the Drinmore all going well. Firefox and Down Memory Lane are possibilities. We could have four runners."

I’ve four candidates for the Arkle, none of which were novice hurdlers last year. I don’t like that form at all. The worst Supreme I can find on ratings. The early season beginners chases have done nothing to dispel that opinion.

The way the exchange is talking for Majborough, doesn't look like he's going that route - for all it's extremely early days.

Yes, I agree. I’m going to be contrarian in that respect and suggest it’s the market reacting to Willie’s comments re 3 miles in his SL Tour. The video that went with it implied to me that 3m comment was more “in time” than specifically this season.

I just can’t see Willie sending a 5yo over 3m. Even with JP’s massive influence. If Ballyburn stays hurdling, there’s a ready made 2m novice chase route for him. I presume Willie had already mapped out separate routes for Ballyburn and IEP.

I do appreciate that JP has a ton of 2m novice chasers though.

Tbf it makes him easy enough to cover for the Arkle anyway

Do get your points though re. 3m and his age

But its JP and he'll probably end up in the NHC
