I would however say the scheduling could be better for everyone - having the 2m Novice Chase and the 2m Open Chase on the same day rather than a week apart is a strange one when you think about it. At least if they were a weak apart you could choose to run a novice in the open chase if they missed the novice the week before.
    Yeah exactly
Re the scheduling you mention……I think there’s a fair amount the BHA could look at !!

Like you say, he can go a bit further with him at Kempton against not much, won’t do him any harm I imagine
Plus more importantly, I can be there for that!!

They are for older horses and novices I suppose the organisers would say.
It is uncommon for a novice to go into open company really.

But the kempton race over further should do him no harm at all.
        He'll be running against gash.
There's also plenty of novice handicap chases he could run in
Completely agree. My thought process was merely if you have a horse considered good enough, it would be better to have another option even if it is suboptimal. If the same thing happened with L'Eau Du Sud for example, I reckon Dan would run him in open company rather than a novice handicap - if there even is an appropriate novice handicap available in the next couple of weeks?

I agree the Pendil is an equally fine alternative as well, maybe I'm just making a problem that isn't actually there...

        • Kempton is surely the right call. Easy two and a half anyway.

I used to quite like horses for the Arkle with form over further...

          • Better Days Ahead with a bit of a gimme at Navan on Sunday.

Stablemates Stellar Story (giving 5lbs to the field) and Three Card Brag make up the main opposition.
