  • Well there's a nice little related double
    Masaccio - Ultima
The Jukebox Man - Brown Advisory

Hopefully Kingy sends him there on the Tuesday

    • A soft ground festival and if I was JP she’d be going BANC, ran credibly against Dancing City giving a lbs away and would be in receipt of 7lbs so 8lbs swing.

DC did what he had to do, PT had the mare well covered so onto BANC for him hopefully with Danny on board and not the anchor!!! Assuming PT will be on Ballyburn.

      • He's done it easy enough there. He is a proper stayer. You'd think PT will be on Ballyburn if he wins at the DRF but Danny knows him well so no issues if he rides him.

The BANC is looking ultra competitive. If Ballyburn impresses at the DRF, he'll go short and there will be value on the day in behind him.

I think PT has a decision to make from what I’ve seen
Guess Ballyburn next race may help him.

          • ….Dancing City now a best 5-1 BANC.

Trouble is Danny might keep the ride on Champ Kiely :/

              • Ultimately you get the impression they don't think Dancing City is as good as Ballyburn so it's moot who the other jockeys are ?

                  Yep, how I see it.

Hurdle ratings back that up too.

                    Why?

They thought Predators Gold was better at the DRF than him and he beat him.

They thought High Class Hero was better in the Bartlett and he beat him.

Paul doesn't get it 100% right, and neither does Willie

                      You know why

You'll have read and heard the same comments I have all season ... they clearly think Ballyburn is a better horse and your examples aren't the same level as Ballyburn

Paul will sit on the one he thinks is best, and whilst he doesn't get it right 100% of the time, if he's on Ballyburn, it'll be because Ballyburn has won at the DRF, it'll likely be the strongest bit of form

Dancing City is a better result for me and I really like him for the race, I just don't think he'd beat Ballyburn on merit

I haven't backed either so doesn't fuss me which one Paul sits on. But Dancing City seems to have been underrated at the stable since his bumper and maiden defeat. I think he has less questions marks for 3m round Cheltenham than Ballyburn anyway. Is Ballyburn more talented? Yes. But talent alone doesn't win you a BANC - plenty of examples of the best horse not winning the BANC.

                        • 2m 5 next week
So we still will have not seen Ballyburn over 3m.

Wonder how he would have fared had he ran today?
                          Now that may have helped.
Even though it is shite ground!!

So how do you feel about the current prices? 5/1 now vs 7/2 - wouldn't back either?

Yep, that's clear. Can see him winning at the DRF but being outstayed by Dancing City at the festival. He's a proper grinder.

I'd say 5/1 for Dancing City is better than 7/2 Ballyburn at the moment. I may say differently next week even if Ballyburn is shorter. My main worry is the opposite to what they've done to Lossiemouth - they've tried to see if he's a 2 miler and got him to race with his keenness and now he's going to have to go up a mile in trip and race within himself. Possibly it won't matter over the shorter trip at the DRF.

FWIW I'm on Better Days Ahead and The Jukebox Man. Better Days Ahead I think we'll only see the best of him at Cheltenham. He may not be good enough but we'll see. The Jukebox Man was good on debut but keen. Settled much better at Kempton and so I wouldn't be worried about him settling at Cheltenham. I've read some thoughts that he may not be a sure stayer but the Albert Bartlett is a bigger test of stamina than the BANC.

This will be the most competitive grade 1 of the week though. I can see arguments for Impaire Et Passe, Croke Park, Jango etc QDB is a live outsider as well stepping up to 3m. Hard to be confident of one at 7/2 at this stage when you've got a fair few who are likely to be 160+ over fences.
