I don't think there's a better way of dropping a Grade 1 for a Handicap, than leaving the weight range open at the top end.
Still a chance that the better horses will turn up. A Grade 1 in disguise yeah ?

I'd be hoping for a 18/20lb weight range with a top weight of 11-10. Gold Cup hopefuls could still target the race as well as the other novice options.

          • Patrick.......

"Majborough could follow in Djakadam's steps as a juvenile hurdler who could make into a Gold Cup horse," he writes. "He fills the eye and what he achieved last season was mind-blowing for the kind of horse he is."

Djakadam went chasing as a 4yo as well so there's hope for any Majborough fans out there.

FWIW, someone matched me a quid @ 50s for the Arkle the other night, presume just a mis-click as I left more up that wasn't taken but he was looking a little wobbly in that market

He's definitely not an Arkle horse

We'd have said the same re. Gaelic last year

Can't rule anything out with Willie.

I doubt Willie would want him to run anywhere else as a 5yr old chaser.
However, it's JP's team that will call the shots (make the final decisions) with him anyway.

                    • The Arkle would ruin him imo. He's a stayer through and through. No way does he end up there. Stay Hurdling very possible but if he goes chasing they'll campaign him as a stayer. He may start out in a beginner chase over 2 but that'll be it.

Why would the Arkle ruin him?

He could jump fences like Footpad.

a 3m slog could ruin him if anything as a 4/5yo.

He'd be taken off his feet Darlo potentially leading to him making serious errors. Knock the confidence out of him early. He'll not go near an Arkle.

He looks like he'll devour fences and so I'd be amazed if he's best suited to 3m as a novice chaser at 5.
The arkle would be made for him if he goes chasing at 5 IMO.

                                Disagree with that strongly

He certainly weren't taken off his feet in a strongly run Triumph, he was right up there prominent swinging away throughout, just wanting to go faster. Looks every inch the type to excel over fences.
