      • Have eventually worked up the will to take a view on the Turners again since Kopek Des Bordes booked his Supreme spot & Kawaboomga got ruled out…

        The market is full of stayers, Final Demand, The Yellow Clay & Sixmilebridge are all one paced galloping diesel buses. They’ll all be prominent trying to make it a stamina test. If they take each other on they may cut throats. Winning the race in that manner on constantly turning the old course isn’t easy. Willougby Court the last to make all & win from the top of my head.

        Can’t believe im saying this but The New Lion is the stand out pace angle, he’ll sit in the pocket & burn them off between the two last hurdles.

        Covered Kiss Will at 40/1 too for a stab in the dark!

          Agreed

          Was hoping he'd drift but it's not looking like that will be the case

          Hopefully mullins has a good day 1 might get 3/1+ then

            Quite an interesting opinion to have.
            I'm wondering what you've based this on, it must only be the eye test because all the data would point to sixmilebridge being a much quicker horse than the new lion.

            The new lion hasn't been recorded as going any faster than 35.86mph, which he achieved at newbury in his novice hurdle there not the challow.
            Sixmilebridge has been recorded hitting 37.42mph at Huntingdon.
            Both races over 2m4f. On what could be described as flat galloping tracks.
            one horse clearly quicker.

            At cheltenham sixmilebridge hit a high of 36.64 mph
            while the new lion hit a high of 35.01mph at Chepstow.
            The new lions race slightly shorter of the 2.
            Both tracks could be described as undulating

            I appreciate the different variables here.
            But my point is the data would suggest the total opposite of your opinion that one of them is onepaced.

            All data taken from attheraces

            • I’m not a data man at all but it’s the time it takes the horse to get up to top speed that would matter in the scenario I was talking about.

                So you're essentially talking about a turn of foot, I appreciate that but I think sixmilebridge has proven he's more than capable of running any turn of foot out of an opponent. While he's also shown he's capable of running at a higher speed.
                I'd also add to this the race he won at Huntingdon turned in to somewhat of a sprint finish and he had a finishing speed of 116.89% which would highlight he has a turn of foot himself. Rather than the onepace diesel bus you suggested.

                You're taking a chance on the new lion having something he hasnt yet produced.

                Unless it's testing one things for certain he'll have to run faster than he ever has before

                • For a stats man would Fergal O’Briens 0% record at the festival not concern you at all?

                    Of course it concerns me.

                    But anyone can see he's a very talented trainer. And one I'm very much rooting for as he's quite clearly an absolutely smashing bloke too.
                    The better horses he's getting will arguably in time produce better results.

                    Will it be this year he starts getting those results?
                    Possibly not but he's got the best bunch of novice hurdlers he's ever had and it's looking like 2 of them are going to take their chances at cheltenham.

                    I'm not just a stat man, first and foremost im a form man and sixmilebridge arguably has the better form than the new lion.

                    • ….Elliott;

                      Supreme;
                      We will definitely run Romeo Coolio. Kopek Des Bordes looked good at the Dublin Racing Festival and sets the standard, but our lad has got plenty of experience and we’re looking forward to running him. He’s in good form.

                      We said we’d keep him fresh. He’s a Kayf Tara and they take a bit of time between their runs. I think we learned a lot out of Fairyhouse, when he was beaten in the Royal Bond, with regards to how to ride him. He’s actually a galloper. We were riding him for speed, but I think he just gallops.

                      Turners;
                      The Yellow Clay and Bleu De Vassy are our two for this. Everyone is saying The Yellow Clay should go for the Albert Bartlett, that he’s favourite for it, but I don’t know if he’s as slow as people make him out to be. If the ground got very, very quick, then it could be something you might think about but, at the moment, we’re thinking of going for the Turners. I think this is his trip.

                      Again, Final Demand looked very good at the DRF. We have a bit of a line of form with Wingmen, and I think The Yellow Clay is a better horse than Wingmen, so that would be the way we’re looking at it.

                      AB;
                      Ballybow and Wingmen will likely run here. Jacob’s Ladder could possibly join them as well, though if I had my way, I’d probably prefer to wait for Fairyhouse or Aintree with him.

                      I think Wingmen is a classy horse over three miles. He’s learned to settle and has got a bit of boot. I’d like to run him here. We always thought he’d be a stayer. With every run, he’s settling better and getting better. I think he could be a classy horse in this race. I’ve won the Albert Bartlett with slower horses than him anyway.

                          I’ve just been lukewarm on him all season in general but the way the race plays out in my head will suit him.

                            He’s actually my biggest winner in the race but I have the feeling I’m in a very small minority

                              Only won it once last year so I find the last comment from Gordon quite funny regarding the plural for horses. The race history is littered with slow horses winning it so pace is irrelevant.

                              • Willie has filled 8 of the 9 places in the last 3 runnings of the Turners from 12 horses. This year he has the fav, Final Demand, but despite having another 18 (!) horses entered, none of them trade at less than 40 on the exchange. You have to assume that he will be multiple represented here - who does anyone think will turn up ?

                                Kel Histoire / Kaid D'authie - JP owned and given that he has The New Lion will he waste another bullet
                                Funiculi Funicula - possible
                                Kiss Will - possible
                                Kappa Jy Pyke - Willie namechecked for Supreme (though he has been known to change his mind!)
                                Karbau - looks an out and out 2 miler
                                Supersundae - Coral Cup bound?
                                Kopek Des Bordes - Supreme bound
                                Sounds Victorious / Argento Boy / Port Joulain / Fishery Lane - AB bound
                                Ballygunner Castle / Inn At The Park / Zillow / Sea Of Sands/You Oughta Know - not good enough
                                Joystick - not coming
