    • ….Kopek;

Mullins said of his winner: “The horse was very keen and free the whole way, but Paul just let him have his head going to his hurdles and he’s jumped way better than Christmas. We did a lot of schooling with him since the last day.

“He’s put him in a lovely position, then the loose horse came and I knew what was going to happen, it set him mad as Paul doesn’t usually go on three furlongs out. The loose horse then ran wide at the second-last and Paul had to yank him back, but he still put in a huge jump at it. You’d think he’d have no trouble jumping fences after that.

“It was a tremendous performance. We thought he was good enough to win a bumper and win his hurdles, but you never know if a horse is this good. They’re Grade One material and very few horses show you that at home. They don’t show me anyway, I don’t ask them that many questions and let them show it on the racecourse.

“This fellow was a beautiful horse at the sales, he didn’t walk the way you’d probably want one to walk but with his pedigree, age, the scope and size of him, we took a chance on him.

“I don’t see any need to go up in trip because he’s going to need a very fast pace in his races.”

      • Be interesting to see how things look once the dust has settled from Kopek’s blockbuster run today.

Salvator has been touted as the apple of the stable’s eye all winter. Is he now going to play second fiddle in the Supreme to Kopek meaning WPM running his two best novices in the same race and leaving himself potentially vulnerable in the other two races? Doesn’t seem a usual WPM/Townend tactic.

Salvator only having the single entry might end up being a factor.

          Had 4 hurdle starts hasn't he ?
Wonder what mark the UK handicapper would give him.

Not sure what you mean - Salavtor would need 5 to run in a handicap?

Salvator is not one of his 2 best novices now though is he ?

Isn’t he? SM could have been equally as impressive if he had run this weekend.

I'm hoping this is exactly what is going to sway Willie in keeping to what was planned for Salvator and Kopek. Final Demand was super impressive but I don't think he'll have the pace to beat The New Lion whereas I think Kopek will. I'm really hoping Townend can be as persuasive as possible in getting Willie to run his 3 best novices in the Supreme/Turners/AB as this will be the best chance for Willie to win all 3 races imo. Running Salvator/Kopek in the Supreme and he may just have one winner from those 3 races imo.

I do keep forgetting they need to have raced 5 times now, ignore me.

                    • I'd let the dust settle over the next couple of weeks re race targets. We've been here before on this issue at this time of year, where does Willie run his best novices?

He'll want to give his stable the best chance of winning all 3 novices.

He's definitely going to be playing second fiddle I'd say

Kopek too keen to go up in trip and paul will definitely pick him over mundi

We'll never know that though will we ?
I know he's not Favourite for the supreme anymore by a long way and won't be the ride of Townend if Kopek runs in the supreme.
Kopek and Final Demand have kicked him out of the penthouse suite for now. And all his jewellery.

Was Kopek always planned for Turners?

If Final Demand drops down to the Turners, what is Mullins plan B in the Albert Bartlett? Not sure myself.

                                He was keen today
Has to have a decent pace
Be surprised if he stepped up
