  • Mundi gives Willie the "Wow" factor........

    "I thought jumping the third-last, he had no chance, that he’d blown up. But he took a breather and to do what he did, to come back and beat them all, wow! After pulling as hard as he did and running his race, I thought I’d be quite forgiving of him, knowing how long it took us to get him ready, the fact that he blew up and will be much better the next day. And then he got his second wind and came out and beat them, so to me that was good enough, it was very good. He won’t run at the Dublin Racing Festival, his next run will be Cheltenham. He jumps much better at home, he just pulled too hard, his head was into flying and not racing, so I’m not worried about his jumping, we think he jumps very well. There will be a lot stronger pace at Cheltenham and he can let fly then."

      • …in case anybody missed the Mullins DRF stable tour;

        Kaid;
        ’I think he’s a really good type of horse. He could be anything. He’s a horse I like a lot. He will go for the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle. That’s what is in my head at the moment, unless something changes. From the first day he came to the stable, some horses just hit you. Like the first day I saw Fact To File, the first day I saw Majborough, and Kaid d’Authie, they are just fine beasts that you’d want to buy and ride.‘

        Kopek;
        ‘He’ll more than likely run in the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle. I couldn’t understand why he jumped like he did last time, because he jumps very well at home. I have in my mind that there was another reason for that which I’ll change the next day. The headgear may make the difference.‘

        Supasundae;
        Supasundae will step up in trip for the Nathaniel Lucy, he probably needs it. He pulls hard but we can put something on him to stop that happening. On his second run he will hopefully drop it a bit once the excitement has gone out of him. He’s rated 142 here and I think he could go a lot higher. I think he has a lot of improvement in him.‘

        Sounds Victorious;
        He looks to be one for the Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle.

        Final Demand;
        Final Demand will lead the team for the Nathaniel Lacy. He was impressive at Limerick and we’re looking forward to him.

        • Oh dear!

          Diva Luna beat AGAIN!

          She needs further than 2m, although I'm not even sure she's that good.

          Got caught in the trap the first time she ran, not this time though, thankfully.

          • I'm not going to offer excuses for her, but that ground looks rank.

              Didn't look like any excuses could be made there, had the race at her mercy if good enough and wasn't

                Her breeding screams stayer, and they try running her like one over 2m, which is fine, but she lacks gears for me to be able to put a race to bed over the minimum.

                  Id take him running on Saturday more positively than negatively.

                  I wouldn’t. It’s lack of impulse control and a sign for me that the old man is still involved to some extent and still fucking things up…..and most ballymore/tuners winners hadn’t been on the go since September. I hope I’m wrong.

                    Did she happen to run in a PTP?

                        The problem is this new Jockey competition could be leading to trainers targeting the smaller races to peak as it is easier prize money. I think we are seeing it a lot with the Skelton's and wouldn't be surprised if the same is done for Sam Twiston-Davies. Pick up £40k when odds on for the race, or target Cheltenham where it is as competitive as you get. Something to consider I feel especially the two partnerships I have mentioned.

                          This is nothing new for NTD it’s been the same story for years he has absolutely no impulse control and his horses are usually done for the season by Feb (and I’m not saying it hasn’t worked ….just not with March in mind). I was hoping his son would be able to control him and to an extent I think he has but this yard won’t operate like one of the very big yards until the old man pisses off to the pub or takes up fishing. Again I hope I am wrong and I respect EAs take on this I’m just not convinced by it.

                            Interesting you should point this out, as I have something ready to post about him in a handicap but it actually belies what you're saying, although that is only one race, and therefore, the general feeling that he's done by Feb could still ring true.

                            I won't be posting it just yet though, looking at getting my money down when horses are priced up etc... before I reveal such information.

                            Also, nothing wrong with fishing

                              • No excuses for Diva Luna there. She has to win that and win well imo as a poor race. 6.5 the only horse so far to show anything for the race.
