    • Koktail Divin v William Munny isn't what I really wanted to see. Was hoping both could pick up easy maiden wins.

I'm going to need to see William Munny win from a staying on Koktail Divin and a big distance back to be rest now.

Not seen the racecard or got further than the email notifications but Mundi isn't a maiden so won't be eligible

Was hoping they were going to go straight there, but can understand striking whilst the iron is hot mentality for such a yard!
They've said he's very fresh at home, if they don't do something with him to get his back down come March the horses head would be fried, you can't not run them if they're that fresh, they get stupid, stupider than is usual for horses, for me I'd rather he didn;t run as it's a lot of races for a novice but can understand why they're kind of forced to go again before march.

As a side question to this - how much is the freshness likely to be down to way he's trained and how much is it likely to be down to the horse? And then I guess secondary to that, how long does it take to build up again?

Very vague questions there but ball park experience guesses would be really interesting if anyone has any?

                • Getting them very fit will make them fresher at home, thing is you get them fit for a race, the race takes less out of them than expected plus it makes them a bit fitter still, so for this one I'd say he's not being extended enough at the races.

Between races once fit you don't do much with them as they're already ready so building them back up isn't much work, if they're coming back for a mid season break you'd be looking a few weeks, coming back from a paddock you'd be working towards 12 weeks to be racefit.

Mentally some horse just want to race all the time, they just thrive on it, others will spend as much time as possible laying around doing very little, he doesn't look like a keen horse once racing so I'm assuming his temperament is sound, he's just fit as f@ck at the moment.

Some vague stuff I know but overall this is what you'd expect if you had one in training,or was training one, Unbroken horses is very different but you're not getting them ready to race, just to be ridden away.

                      • They'd be very stupid if that was what they was thinking about, given the calibre of animal in question.

                          What do you mean ?
It'll not harm him if he's ready to run.

And as I've mentioned before now, horses welfare and future targets often go out of the window when the money and prestige is on the table.

I can guarantee there will be horses running on Saturdays (including this weekend) and at the major festivals in coming weeks that might not have done had it not been for this initiative.

Just take him to a course for a decent racecourse gallop like everyone else. Hope he doesn't get drawn into a proper tussel in what could turn out to be testing ground as he could leave his Festival race there.
