  • Not backed jasmin myself.
Looked to be hanging a bit right to me, Paul had a good grip with his left hand. jumped a bit that way also.
We'll see better (have a better idea) when upped to graded next I reckon.

also looked small compared to Kaid Dauthie who looked massive with a big stride, reminded me of vautour, but townend fell off too early to see how good he might be or not.

From a looks point of view and stride though I've liked Kaid D and Karniquet the most, so far.

Plenty to improve on. No panic yet.

Also really liked that battling display from The Yellow Clay, think that at least proved my opinion right about him being a Bartlett type now.
Yeah, TYC looked more suited to an AB there
Jumps well and a fair engine

      • Can't make my mind up on The Yellow Clay. Think he is worth trying at 2m as a strongly run race at the trip may suit. Don't see him being an AB horse who tend to be paceless at shorter trips. He travels well enough and eventually got on top at the finish today. However, doesn't have the finishing kick for a Turners. Penhill is the last to win a graded race at less than 3m and go on to win the AB, and that was a weak 5 runner grade 3 over 2m at the beginning of October. Think he is one I will just leave and see what happens.

        • Anyone else willing to forgive Kaid d'Authie's fall today at Navan. Mullins gave it as a dark horse to follow and i think 50s is a generous price for the supreme novices hurdle

            Absolutely, always forgive that
            He seemed to
jump it fine anyway, looked like he stumbled after to
me, need to see it again though.

            • Just re-watched Jasmin De Vaux.

His jumping was slow and out to the the right at 2 or 3 hurdles but it wasn't a complete catastrophe, IMO.

That turn of the foot the final 50-100 yards was what I like to see though, albeit going away from a horse that definitely wants the intermediate trip. One smack and he livened up and was away.

Early on in the race he looked to have that low head carriage that Ballyburn has, although it wasn't quite as pronounced as what Ballyburn does.

I had it in my mind it was very average to say the least, so have had a good look back at the race and made the following comments for each jump

                1 - stuttered into
2 - shortened up, popped fine
                3 - stuttered into
4 - lost a length on The Enabler
                5 - fluent
                6 - fluent
2 out - on stride, but ballooned slightly and landed in a little bit of a heap (The enabler much quicker away from the back side of the hurdle)
last - got into the roots of it, and The Enabler once again quicker away on the back side.

He just looks like a little pony, and one that doesn't look brave enough to have a good cut at a hurdle. Obvious caveat that it was his hurdles debut etc, but they've commented on his size and lack of scope a few times over the summer and I'd have serious question marks as to how he would jump at championship pace, under pressure and in amongst horses.

There is though, no doubting he has a very good engine in there.

                • Didn't paul townend say something like You can teach them to jump , but you can't change the engine ??. ( wrong i'm sure )
                  Sound's like he's giving him a chance .

                  • After the Festival Bumper last year he was described as ‘small and narrow’ by Patrick Mullins. For me it did not encourage thoughts that he would make a natural hurdler - lacking scope etc. of course lots of small horses go on to become excellent hurdlers. Now that I have seen him hurdling I was surprised at how well he coped losing ground at hurdles etc He certainly has an engine and I would say heart as well. But to get to G1 I think he will have to jump better - maybe he will learn!

                    • I've backed Jasmin but my eye tells me he'll not be top of Willies pile come March bar some leap in improvement. I'm hopeful but that's it.

Doesn’t this sound like the sir gerhard discourse after his bumper?

                        • Minella sixo goes again today.
This will be his 4th hurdle run in 2 months, is he being lined up for a handicap or can he make up in to an albert bartlett contender?
For those that like a related double, minella sixo (AB) and potters charm (TNH) is currently 614/1 with paddy Power, I've had a very small play as I don't see where minella sixo goes if winning again today other than the bartlett.
going in the same race is churchroad Prince, a full brother to Bill joyce who i like for the bartlett, I'll be keen to see him stay this trip well.
