Possible Bartlett type (currently 50/1).
100% a Bartlett horse. Won his point from the front in a bog. One paced on bumper debut. No sign of a turn of foot required for a Gallaghers. Boat.

      • As far as the eye test goes, very impressive from Valgrand.

Maybe one for Aintree....a little ground dependant.

          • One race too many for Gale Mahler me thinks. Thats her 7th race since May 7th. Give her a decent rest and bring her back for the Spring Festivals. Having said that Valgrand looked very very good. Slick over the hurdles and clearly got a good engine and hit the line. Could go further. I think the Handicapper will be having a very close look at his 118 OR.

            • I think that was seriously impressive, especially for October. Perhaps Gale Mahler didn't run to form, but she was 6l in front of Brave Knight who is rated 8lb less.

              • Thought before the race that it looked a hot race. 5 unbeaten horses was it ? So to win by that distance is a surprise. Thought the Mare wouldn't be good enough to mix it with the best and clearly that's the case but to win by that margin takes some doing.

                • Dan has said his action would mean he'd need good ground tho..not sure he'd be the same horse on soft.

Couldn't back him then as the recent Festivals have all been run in very soft ground.

Yep, never a good look when a horse is getting hit when well clear on the run in
                        Horse looks useful though

Thought she would drop out with the washing once beat so to stay on for 2nd like she did was creditable. Doubt she is Cheltenham grade 1 material but can certainly improve for further which is unsurprising being out of Mahler and a Presenting Mare. Will be interesting how they rate the winner.

                          • Interesting divisions of the maiden at Chepstow today. Nicholls talking of the Challow for Quebecois personally I was more impressed with The New Lion in the 1st division. Now 25/1 for Gallaghers.

Visually, I agree. But division two seemed much deeper. The right horse finished second (RPR 122) and he extended away. I think that’s a decent start. I’d want to see him in a Bartlett ideally. I think he’d have a chance there.

I’m not sure what The New Lion has beat? A couple with an RPR of 100 or so were in third and fourth and less than 10 lengths back. The Nicholls horse in second was had a reasonable reputation but hasn’t run under rules before. But The New Lion couldn’t have done it much more easily. One to see again, I’d say.

                              • I'm thinking that Port Joulain might well get a pretty decent mention tomorrow in Willies Stable Tour. After his Punchestown nightmare he's gone right off the radar for nearly everyone but it's clear Mullins just loved that Gowran Park win and he rates him highly. I'm expecting his odds to tumble.
