I think what you also have to remember I think deep down WPM probably wanted to keep Salvator Mundi as a novice due to how late he got out. Whether that was deliberate or through issues we just don’t know. In my opinion I’d say it was deliberate, he maybe had a small issue that kept him back compared to others deputising over here but possibly decided at that point there was no point ruining his novice status. He had the race by the balls at that point (apart from Sir Gino). He had that many juveniles, we’ve all said numerous times he didn't seem to have too many top class novices to go hurdling this season, let him get a run at the track, some experience travelling over here and put him away for this season.

Thats the way I’m looking at it anyway. He jumped lovely in that race he won by half the track, yes very poor field but his jumping was really slick to me. He’s top on my list and I think WPM’s list.

Believe there were a few niggly issues with him tho through the season

I watched Mundi's Hurdles romp for the first time in full last night. I know he was supposedly racing against absolute trees but it was still a spectacular win and you don't see that sort of demolition many times in your lifetime. He looked like he had just started when he crossed the finishing line. I just loved the look of disbelief on the faces of all the photographers and course staff when he went by them and the time it took for the others to reach where they were standing. Extraordinary performance. Looking forward to seeing him next time.

Willie followed a similar path to Salvador Mundi’s with Il Etait Temp’s journey at Cheltenham, as Il Etait Temps finished 5th in the Triumph before running in the Supreme the following year and Il Etait Temps has proved to be a very good horse

However he only finished 5th in the following years Supreme beaten nearly 10 lengths, so hopefully Salvador is better?

Also worth noting he was out at the DRF and then Punchestown too. He also had the benefit of two runs in France. He was more exposed than Mundi by the start of his novice campaign and still progressed to go off somewhere near second fav in the Supreme.

More exposed is a double edged sword though, as showing experience and a certain level of form can sometimes be better than ‘potential’

However I think that Willie’s plan is clear through what he has done before with Il Etait Temps and therefore, by in large we know where Salvador’s going to end up and even if a superstar emerges during the season, then he most likely will be shorter than todays price…..I’m in!

That's how I saw it with Romeo & Jalon so have now acted accordingly and cashed out some bets.

Thought Wingmen would be a Bartlett type, but clearly not, so have cashed my bet on him for that now. Some on here did say he ran too freely when I made a case for him in the Bartlett, and happy to concede this is the case now with Gordon mentioning him being a 2m4f horse.

I thought the same but he runs with the choke out and would never get home. Would take JD over him at the intermediate trip.

I put The Yellow Clay up for the Gallagher last year but that looks unlikely to happen this season either. I think it could be the right race for him as he has a turn of foot, but they’ll likely keep him and Wigmen apart.

Not sure what Jim's source is but the RP Jumps Preview said that Romeo and Yellow Clay were 2 miles and that Jalon and Wingmen "would want further". On that basis, I'd not discount the Bartlett for Wingmen.
