Also, they always talk up a few random ones that have personal connections.... what was that one that his Mum owned and they just banged on about it for ages and it was really average .... omg that's gonna annoy me loads

That sounds bad as she was named after their mum/gran

If she comes out and wins then the 5/1 becomes 2/1 or less and the 5/1 will then have looked value.
Apparently named after a neighbour Maureen O'Brien.

      • Fenton was, though, keen to clear up where Maughreen’s name came from. “There’s a lot of people think Maughreen is named after Maureen Mullins but that’s not the case, I said to her I wouldn’t like that pressure on her,” said Fenton.
“She’s named after a next-door neighbour of mine called Maureen O’Brien from Castlelyons.
“It was an emotional day for me yesterday, as she was like my mother growing up and she died a couple of years ago.
“I always told her someday I would have a horse named after her and her favourite horse was Faugheen and it just happened the way it worked out

        • Haha brilliant, and she's no relation to Faugheen is she ....

So essentially, it's trainer talking up a syndicate horse .... and not running it yet so the bubble doesn't burst Social runner at best

          • ComplyOrDie how can you not like The New Lion

Apart from the price now, obviously....

In terms of actual performances I actually think he's looked more special than anything else I can think of?

Not that I've got my bets displayed this year but I'd swap my The Yellow Clay position with him in a heartbeat

Looked good, for sure. Not for me at the prices.

Not convinced by level of form either. Beat a 127 horse, a horse who needs 3m and a horse who needs 2m and was way too keen and was never going to get home, yet only finished 7 odd lengths behind. Appreciate a button was barely pushed but I'd like to see what's under the bonnet. Could have been very little for all we know.

              Horrible price.

I have The Yellow Clay for the Bartlett so I'm hoping he doesn't turn up against The New Lion

My hopes are pinned on Kopek Des Bordes being a real good one and Potters Charm, albeit I think he's only playing for a place unless something happens to KDB!

Expect Jasmin to improve and shorten IF he turns up to the auction race they mention he may run in. Could still nick a place. Raw ability is there, his jumping is not.....currently!

Ah ok, at current price I can definitely see why you wouldn't fancy him

I wouldn't fancy Potters Charm as single figures either when the Irish duo you mentioned (albeit you've got the wrong race for one ) I would back before the others if starting now

I’d not take that as good value, winning what is likely a tinpot maiden hurdle where we learn nothing other than she has legs that can jump. Typical bookie overreaction and as you say she’d probably go 6/4. She still wouldn’t have done anything close to what Sixandahalf has achieved and she’d be more than double her price.

Edit - if she’s not value now, she doesn’t become value for winning a tinpot maiden was more my point, 5/1 is a shocking price, it certainly wouldn’t have me delighted if i backed her thinking she went sub 2/1 as it would need to be a decent stake to get a nice return.
