…initially, it’s the stable tours and scramble to get in a position or cash-out depending on what’s being suggested.

      Love this feeling.

Love watching bumper horses going into maiden hurdles and progressing on

Love being at Down Royal start of November then Cheltenham 2 weeks later... then Royal Bond usually 2/3 weeks after that!

I think I am looking forward to near enough everything this season!

Tried to keep up to date where horses are going and any news over the summer, and had the odd bet on the big summer races, but I didn’t really watch any flat racing so feel like I am nice and refreshed for the new season ahead and it is one I am really excited about. (I have had a few ante post bets mind!) From the major talking points, potential clashes and to the unknown new superstars.

Really looking forward to Dysart Enos, was gutted not to see her in a proper race last season. Now there is no need to avoid the bigger races we will see what she is capable of.

First thing to sort though is the tracker, make sure my notes are all up to date, add some potential good ones and boot out the cliff horses!

Having the feeling for weeks I’ve nailed the winner of the Hennessy.

Getting to Newbury, it being foggy, then raining, then sleeting, then snowing.

          Not feeling my feet.

Watching the horses fly past on the stands at the end of the first circuit, realising my certainty hasn’t even made it round once…

          ….yet absolutely loving it

To be honest, just looking forward to the jumps being back.

Have enjoyed the flat a little more this year, think being selective as to when I bet has helped, normally just the big meets instead of a little scattergun to fill the jumps void over the summer

Looking forward to all the early season milestones like Mark Howard's book being delivered, the stable tours being released, the Cheltenham badge dropping on the mat and the October meeting kicking off in about a month. It all helps offset the weather getting greyer and wetter!

Personally, just love the challenge of the Festival races and the ability to get involved so far in advance of the race. Can't wait to get fully committed to the many discussions that are sure to divide opinions on here, hopefully with a few controversial views from myself!

Horse wise, I think it is a very tough year. I think Ballyburn was a good horse in a bunch of poor novice hurdlers and think there could be value taking them on, albeit several will improve for a fence. The 2m 4f-3m novice chase division was good so interested to see how they get on against experienced grade 1 horses. Then you have the individual performers like can Constitution Hill return to somewhere near his best and anything serve it up to Teahupoo in the Stayers? The 2m chase division is another fascinating one with the prospects of Jonbon, El Fabiolo, Gaelic Warrior, Energumene, Dinoblue and not forgetting ever reliable Captain Guinness all aiming originally for the Champion Chase.

                  Bring It On!

I had it e-mailed last year on 26th September, so it shouldn't be too long now.

                      Post on 10th September:.

As discussed, I am continuing to work on the new edition of One Jump Ahead, which is due to go to the printers early next week with a view to it being published towards the end of the month...

I love the puzzles of trying to work out who could be bought, and trying to find out where they'll be going.

You can also then see the horses progress from the start of their career and hopefully then see some horses win at the festival multiple times.

And yeah Willie bingo always keeps the threads ticking over for a solid 6 month
Setting aside my books I love this too. I really enjoy following horses right from the start of their careers.

I'll see you at both OTL. I'm really looking forward to them.

My start to the season is as follows

Two weekends at Dan's yard running stable visits for the horses
Both days of the Persian War Meeting at Chepstow, including The King Of Ryhope and Forever William both running on the Saturday.
A further organised stable visit at Dan's
Two days of the Cheltenham October Meeting
                          Both days at Down Royal
All three days at Cheltenham's Paddy Power Meeting
Punchestown weekend for the Durkan and Royal Bond

I can't even begin to express how much I'm looking forward to the new season.

I wonder when he goes over hurdles how much improvement there is to come as essentially an experienced and older horse. He'll win nice races, but you've got to think others will improve past him by the time the Festival comes round.

I'll be there with an ex native OTL, but it would be good to catch up for a drink on course.
