Wouldn’t touch the cross country with any potential changes to the festival that would be high up on the list imo.

I think the early yankees are a little trickier than usual this year, not least because races like the NH Chase, The Turners, and the XC are all potentially under threat in some way. There's a good chance that all will have their conditions changed, and with two of them being novice chases there is potential for impact to the Arkle and the Brown Advisory. Plus I wouldn't usually include the Mares Hurdle at this early stage, because targets can be less clear, some Mares don't progress, and the step up to two and half can catch some out and improves others. So for me it essentially takes five races out of play for these currently.

However things like this can also help to focus the mind, and that for me leaves 5 races that I would reasonably consider for these in the immediate term until we know more. Or the start of the season starts to put horses in the frame for other races. Below are the races and horses I think are the ones to focus on. They are the only ones that I believe can or should be considered as solid selections. It's very much worth looking back at the winners over the last three seasons that could have reasonably have been picked at this stage of the season, and the races below are also those that it is statistically more likely that we'd find the winner in May-September.

Given there has been (understandably), very little activity on this thread this month, how does everyone feel about picking their favourite four horses from the list below, and then based on the most popular selections they go into the yankee for this month?

        Champion Hurdle
        Constitution Hill
        State Man
        Lossiemouth

        Champion Chase
        El Fabiolo
        Gaelic Warrior
        Jonbon

        Stayers Hurdle
        Teahupoo
        Theleme

        Gold Cup
        Galopin Des Champs
        Fact To file

        Mares Chase
        Brighterdaysahead
        Dinoblue
        Limerick Lace

          ….sensible approach Spectre and pretty much in thinking with the last two months discussions. It certainly gives MOM a bit of ammunition. With Teahupoo already finding his way into the first two bets this year, I’ll go;

          Lossiemouth
          Gaelic Warrior
          F2F
          BDA

Interesting stuff Spectre, I've certainly done less Festival multis at this stage than usual due to uncertainty.

Lots of solid selections there - the main query I would have is how sure are we that BDA will go chasing?

Aye, the Mares Chase in general seems a bit of a rogue selection amongst those imo. Would focus the other four

Personally think all the time CHill is the price he is right now he should be the first pick for any Yankee.

                    better days ahead BANC 25/1
                    Gaelic warrior Ryanair 8/1
                    el fabiolo champ chase 7/1

My other comment is that I feel that the targets for ballyburn, Brighterdaysahead and Lossiemouth are far from certain. I usually nail my colours to a post by now, to the contrary of the forums opinion. However, I do T have any confirmation this year.

Constitution Hill - ch. hdl. - willing to risk it for a biscuit ..
Gaelic Warrior - ch. chs. - el fabiolo needs to bounce back.
Teahupoo - styrs hdl. - the rock solid option at this stage .
Fact to File . - gold cup . - as much as i think g.d.c . will be hard to beat , f.t.f. could well be the one . i.m.o.
