  • May ‘24 Yankee

With April sorted, we move onto May.

Perhaps we could consider the Punchestown Festival, Dancing City (BANC) would be my nomination with post race comments suggesting he’s going down the chasing route, generally 10-1 with bits of 12-1 available.

I think if you have Jade, Golden Ace and Dysart in the books for the mares hurdle you've likely got the winner.

The spanner in the works would be Lossiemouth not going CH.

Since we have Golden Ace in the last one I'd vote for either one of Jade or Dysart.

….i’d like to get Dysart onside too, she’s unbeaten under rules and 14-1 is decent. She’s beaten GA 9L in their Aintree bumper run, a tenuous form line with the Irish. Indeed, I did the Dysart/Dancing City double earlier this morning.

I've lost track but do we know why we haven't seen Dysart? she was lame at Cheltenham but hasn't been seen since.

….she was entered at Aintree but from what I can remember she was withdrawn on account of the going. All set up to give her trainer his first festival win on the opening day next season.

Pretty sure she was also entered for that race at the Cheltenham April meeting won by Golden Ace. Anyone know why she didn’t get declared?

I thought she was withdrawn due to ground at Aintree

                  But may be wrong

RP says 'unsuitable ground' for Aintree and 'self-certificate, lame' for Cheltenham.

Not so much an antepost fan of horses that need certain ground conditions to run well (or even turn up).

Ones to back with smaller stakes antepost and/or leave til closer to the day.

Unless they're so superior to the rest that they're worth having early, and chancing the weather/ground.

Just been reviewing all the key races Eggs , and the ratings given by the Racing Post

Some interesting thoughts came from that, whether they're potential money-making antepost thoughts, or not, I am formulating those a.t.m.

From the Punchestown festival, I think Stumptown may be a candidate for the Cross Country Chase next year, and from the Cheltenham meeting last Friday, I though What A Glance worth a second look for the Foxhunters.
