I normally can reel off 3/4 at this point that I fancy for the Arkle but apart from him I have no one else.

The Supreme winner would be high on my list every other year but don't see this year's winner running in it after listening to Rachel and sounds like Sir Gino will be Nicky's next Champion Hurdle hopeful. Ballyburn Champion Hurdle or Turners/BANC, Mystical Power clearly unlikely, IEP will need a trip, Tullyhill needs to show his Supreme run was all wrong , Majborough looks a stayer.

Punchestown might throw up a few more clues perhaps.

    • The novice chases are the last place I would look right now for a Yankee.
Doubt even connection’s know what’s going where!!
Probably fair few that could run in all of them, Ballyburn eg looks to me like he could win all three. That’s if he goes chasing!! I suspect he will but none of us know.
Having said that, I have put Ballyburn in a Yankee for the Arkle, but it’s only cos I like to try and guess early, get a price and see what happens, but I would not recommend that for the forum.

      • Ile atlantique is 2 from 8 for Willie

You lads will have to give up at some point before you hit the rocks at the bottom of the cliff

He's one from one over 2m over hurdles for Willie, though.

His bumper form ties in with Firefox and Stellar Story, that held up well over the course of the season and more so the festival.

For whatever reason Ile Atlantique has been campaigned over the mid trip, despite a very solid maiden debut performance over 2m, recording one of the better RPR's (133) of 2m maiden hurdle winners this season in Ireland.

I think it's reasonable to believe he'd be better back down in trip. Patrick also mentioned this after the Baring Bingham.

I very much dislike the way people talk about harchibald and lami serge myself

                  Call them dodgepots or soft

Way I look at them they are the most genuine horses you'll see

They put 100% in without being asked, so when they are asked for more they have nothing to give

The dodgepots are the ones who need pushing along from half way just to put any effort in

                  • Harchibald is probably my favourite horse of all time. Hence the pic. Not everyone's cup of tea but Harchibald and Paul Carberry some combination, my early racing memories that

I'm with FF as well. Always been an unknown if they're the most or least genuine

Every time i see that champion hurdle I'm still convinced he's gonna win and he still hasn't !

One day he'll win it! It's odd being a loser but it's one of the races I enjoy to watch back from time to time.

                        • In Ile Atlantique's defence, he's been weighed down by "the anchor" the last twice. Get Paul back on board and attack from the front and he's a likely Arkle type. It is very worrying that he chose Jimmy Du Seuil over him though at Aintree

Paul rode the horse who had already finished ahead of Ile Atlantique at Cheltenham, so looked an obvious decision to me.

As you said though, 'the anchor' being on board made sure Ile Atlantique wasn't going to win at either festival!
