  • Day 3 Yankee 2024 - Captain HarryTrotter

Right then where to start for the day 3 Yankee!? Apologies for the late post I was working late last night but I’m raring to go.
Open to all ideas for this whether ew or a win one, the only horse I’m going to probably have to put in somewhere is Jade de Grugy. Although the mares novice looks a cracking renewal I’ll be hard pushed not to have her onside.
All input welcome let’s try and get some winners

I think Brighterdaysahead is going to end up in the overall yankee so a bit of hedging won't go amiss

A little unoriginal but two horses that won and placed last year in the same races are Envoi Allen / Teahupoo

No obvious star for either to beat in either race and whilst you can pick holes in either, they're not 'short short' .... it's hard to see Envoi Allen / Teahupoo and the one you like, Jadew De Grugy ... out of the frame isn't it?

Then take a swing at the Pertemps where Icare Allen / Cleatus Poolaw will dead heat for the win

Envoi has to be high on the list I’d think. Definitely loves Cheltenham and that’s always a huge plus point. I do think banbridge is a decent horse but very ground dependant so envoi is a very solid pick. Teahupoo I just can’t seem to warm to for some reason. There’s no real reason why just one of those horses for me

Thursday has low key become the hardest day of the fest imo. Good luck

My tuppence for what it's worth:

Thursday is usually a tough day for the punters as the faves typically struggle, so I think looking outside the box is the best approach.

That said, for EW ideas I give you the following:
          • Cobblers Dream - Pertemps 40/1 (NRNB)
          • Protektorat - Ryannair - 20/1 with bet365 Antepost
          • Monkfish - Stayers - 14/1 available. (NRNB)
          • Shakem up'arry 20/1 available antepost
I've also just backed this myself as an EW L15

It's a mixture of antepost and NRNB prices with Bet365.

Facile Vega looks fair @ 4/1 NRNB (without Fact To File) to improve for the step up in trip in the Golden Miller against what I suspect are lesser British novice chasers (with the possible exception of Grey Dawning who appears to be error prone).

Pertemps - Too hard for me!

Ryanair - Quite like Appreciate It @ 14/1 NRNB under a more positive ride though concerned that this race could be set up for a hold up horse and I'd have a lot of respect for Banbridge on decent ground,

Stayers Hurdle - Teahupoo is not for me, reckon he needs it soft (at least) and he failed in a weak renewal last year when Home By The Lee did remarkably well to finish fairly close after a blunder so he'd do at 20/1 NRNB EW or else Irish Point who looks the obvious class angle at shorter odds (7/2 NRNB).

Plate - Maybe Letsbeclearaboutit @ 12/1 NRNB off 152 (Irish) in first-time blinkers (apparently).

Mares' Novice Hurdle - Sorry! But reckon Brighterdaysahead @ 2/1 NRNB (could go off bigger) brings the best form in the division in a hot renewal.

Kim Muir - Cool Survivor looks to have been laid out for this off 135 (Irish) and he'd be my h'cap nap of the festival.

Appreciate It not going according to Sporting Life.

Willie was unusually positive about a handicapper when discussing Icare Allen in his Sporting Life stable tour. He finished off by saying:

"I'm hoping he'll be a big runner for us in the Pertemps. He looks great at home in training and I'm very happy with him".

What about that Thursday when Black Hercules (JF) Vautour (F), Thistlecrack (F), Limini (F), Cause of Causes (2ndF) all won?

Completely tongue in cheek, just that day sticks out in my mind as one of the best I can recall. HAd been the festival Tue and Wed, then went to Liverpool to watch it there..... the pub we were watching in didn't show the last two races so had to scramble to a bookies to watch Limini (and obviously that involved MORE on) then Jamie Codd's ride on Cause Of Causes being one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.

I won a chunk that day and definitely came home with nothing but my soul, dignity and life in tatters. Incredible day/night.

I'm not usually bullish either but one of these two does win

Well you're right, I think the last 2 years the ground has gone really heavy by the Thursday and thus the big priced winners start to appear, but who knows!?

Yeah that day does sound like the dream, fingers crossed we get another one of those this year!

Not interested in the Turners until we know who Is actually turning up. I'd like to see if something Is going to take Ginny's Destiny on or not as that changes how the race will go.

Is Gaoth Chuil going to the Pertemps or is Ted Walsh keeping her in Ireland? If coming to Cheltenham, she wins the Pertemps.

The other ones to consider for the Pertemps would be Le Milos (last 2 winners have been sired by Sirocco with the dame sire sired by Sadler's Wells) and Popova (not actually sure why I like her for this but keep coming back to her).

                        Conflated wins the Ryanair.

Crebilly been backed like he won't lose but this race suits those who are prominent so not value for me. Doesn't Saint Felicien just piss in - races prominently, rated in the 140s, previous festival favourite.

                        Brighterdaysahead wins the Mares novice.

I'd go with either of Elliott's in the Kim Muir.

Firm Footings. Been on my handicap chase list since the start of the season. Wasn't sure which one he'd go for but this looks the most likeliest now. Cool Survivor was the one I was watching for this race in particular at the start of the season. Went off fav for the Martin Pipe last year. Looks a better chaser to me and off a lower chase mark. The extended trip will suit and they've been running him over shorter. I'd like them to ride him patiently. Will have a top amateur on board.

                        My picks in preference order if going each way;

                        Saint Felicien
                        Gaoth Chuil
                        Cool Survivor
                        Conflated

Hoping for an Elliott Thursday with BDA as well.

Can't look past Envoi for a repeat in the Ryanair. Could be called the winner some way out last year and won easily. Looks just as good this year and comes into the race a fresh horse. Absolutely loves the place. HDB sounds supremely confident as well.

                            Current thoughts are most likely
to be in are envoi Allen and jade de grugy with another selection coming from either the turners or stayers and a handicap selection to juice the returns a bit. Feels like there’s a few uncertainties with the turners currently (will Gaelic warrior or facile vega turn up here), making it tough to make a decision in the race currently. Handicap wise, there’s far better judges than me on here for that so feel that needs some help. Stayers options feels like Irish point is the most solid option but it’s a strange race and as someone has already pointed out often throws up the bigger prices winners

The Thursday double on Icare Allen and his twin brother Envoi Allen has a nice feel to it.
