  • FAT JOCKEY - 'Overall' Yankee - Captain: Erwinj25

I have the honor of overall Yankee captain (What this means, is I can essentially pick a horse from any of the four days. It doesn't need to be one per day either.)

The point of these Yankee's is for us all to back them for (min stakes is fine) so we have a collective Yankee to support during the week! With it being collective Yankee, as much engagement as possible is encouraged.

Win only, each way, handicaps, shorties, no-hopers, popular horses, personal fancies, tips from the other Yankees, cases made elsewhere, random guesses... all up to you ......My decision will be final.

Final selection to be put up on Sunday 10th March.

Horses, races, jockeys, trainers, owners, form, ground, stats let's thrash it all out and get some $$ (Sorry I am an Australian Citizen now!)

Perhaps as a suggestion going forward, we could each give 2 strong win selections and 2 ew selections... then hopefully some inspired consensuses emerge that can be formulated into a lucrative Yankee.

So maybe 2 short priced & 2 long priced giving your two best win and ew selections for the festival.

Thank you ahead to all contributors and best of luck everyone!

Brighterdaysahead is the best value shorter favourite of the week for me, even though shes mainly joint fav. They are absolutely raving about her at Cullentra. Jade De Grugy looks to be a good mare but I think her debut performance was better than the Solerina win, which I thought she looked good until the final furlong when she didn't put any extra distance into the ones behind. Contrast that to Brighterdaysahead who seems to get stronger at her finish. The 2m1 on the new course will be perfect for her. I can see JDG taking it up in the final 4-5 furlongs and these two separating themselves with Jack producing her just before the last.

They both fit the trends well:

•Irish trained -6/8 although last two UK trained
•6/8 won listed or graded class last time
•6/8 won over 2m2 or further

Jade would be the trends pick due to being French bred and starting in France but Brighterdaysahead just looks special to me. Wins this and should then be aimed at the Turners next year.

        Top man

I definitely agree with DenmanSacre regarding Brighterdaysahead - I've started to really come around to herbut 2 obvious dangers in a race that's thrown up some surprising winners.

One of the toughest things is knowing when the values gone, as prices today won't be there on Sunday 10th .... especially on handicap day.... need to have a shortlist perhaps ready to react on the day or the day before?

As a big Jade Du Grugy fan, I have to defend her here

I think that’s a pretty harsh assessment of the final stages of the Solerina. She jumped the second last level and with hand and heels puts 4 lengths between the final 2 flights. Pulls a further couple clear and is eased the final 150 yards or so. On viewing she looked to have plenty left in the tank, which we sort of know anyway having raced over further on debut.

I’d say it’s a 50:50 call between the 2 of them and agree what you’ve said, can see the 2 of those fighting it out at the finish. Half of us will be right at least

I think they are two exceptional novice mares. I think JDG is being considered for the Thursday bet so imo we either have one for each Yankee or leave the race alone for both yankees as it’s a coin flip imo. The supporting cast is strong too, Fergal loves his, Nicky loves his.

I'm a big fan of Jade De Grugy so I'm possibly being over critical. I just think BDA shows more than Jade in that final furlong. Both mares would win the last few runnings of the Mares novice no doubt for me. BDA is a top top prospect (the best mate prospect since Honeysuckle IMO) after rewatching all their races again. If Ballyburn doesn't go the BB, I think BDA would win the BB pretty cosily. 3 weeks ago I was all over Jade for this but I've moved back over to BDA. She just has that extra bit of quality to me.

hope BDA does the business ...i am on @20-1! worry is the dialogue around her on the ground and more a chaser

That’s fair, I can’t see past either of them to be honest.

They’ve both been talked up by connections, Elliott couldn’t put more praise on BDA if he tried, she has backed that up as well. WPM is never as bullish as that but I think he knows Jade is top notch.

                      Top two win selections:-
                      MInella Indo (X Country)

                      Top two EW selections:-

Personally, starting to think i might go for a bigger priced ew option than putting short, priced horses in. Unless you’re putting bigger stakes on it’s not worth including the shorties was my thinking

No idea if he will run but Forward Plans run style would be perfect for a Kim Muir where they typically go off too fast and the strongest stayers prevail. He stays all day and surely will be bang there if getting luck in running (as a holdup horse). 16s NRNB. What’s not to like?

…..might be worth looking Dandrew99 analysis from the Diamond Geezer competition as well as his selections spreadsheet, plenty of good reference material in there covering the whole week.

I really do like that bumper horse yououghttaknow , but bit of a rhetoric going around that Mullins string of bumpers not the strongest this year. Might have been the ill fated jeroboam machines to lose.
