    I'm going to the one at the racecourse on the weekend before, happy to do a little write up. Not normally the most informative evening though! Just good Guinness and gets the excitement up

      I'm off to one tomorrow night.......with 4 of my racing mates.......just us. Around 150 festivals between us so probably a lot more reliable than many of the so called expert guests on the circuits!!

                  ….ATR Preview, 28th Feb; Sean Boyce (SB), Kevin Blake (KB), Matt Chapman (MC), Jamie Codd (JC);

                  Champion Hurdle;
                  MC spoke with Hendo today, he thinks 100% CH will run. JC thinks he’ll run. KB doesn’t think he’ll run, he’d be very concerned something is amiss.
                  JC thinks State Man had his chance last season, if CH runs he wins. KB, Lossie won’t switch regardless, Bob O won’t be supplemented but JC would love it if he is.

                  Champion Chase;
                  KB; El Fab is better than Jonbon. He’s the best horse.
                  JC; Jonbon doesn’t do himself any favours, he had a hard race last time. You’d have to fancy El Fab.
                  SB; likes Edwardstone.
                  MC; El Fab is top class.

                  Stayers;
                  JC; Irish Point wins it.
                  KB; Wide open, Home by the Lee overpriced. Goes well fresh, might wear blinkers. Stays all day.
                  MC; HBTL has no chance. Crambo probably best UK. Teahupoo the selection.

                  Gold Cup;
                  MC; Thinks it’s open. GDC probably wins but nothing would be a ‘surprise winner’.
                  JC; Shishkin least exposed, very talented & definitely placed. Think the race is set up for Fastorslow. GMG is unexposed, Mouse fancies him.
                  KB; Easier for GDC this year because they know he gets the trip. His jumping might not be quite as good. Thinks he wins.
                  SB; L’Homme Presse away from the obvious.

                  Nov Hrd;
                  KB; Bally is the best and should run in Sup. Doesn’t fancy Tullyhill. Ben Paulings Tellherthename worth consideration. Concerned about the form of Henderson horses. Likes Ile Atl for BB.
                  JC; Ground might be key to where Bally goes but wherever he goes he wins. Likes Firefox in the Sup, a very good horse. Really likes Lecky Watson for AB.
                  MC; Massive fan of Jeriko. Shanagh Bob AB really talented.

                  Nov Chasers;
                  JC; FAF is most solid one for Arkle, Quillixios is of interest at a bigger price. American Mike for Turners. Massive SAF fan for BANC, Sandor Clegane could run well at a price. Can’t get away from Corbett’s for NHC, thinks he’ll win well.
                  KB; Be against MN in Arkle, especially if soft. Likes IET. BANC will be a small field but a good race. Afraid of F2F but loves Monty’s. Worried about EG in NHC.
                  MC; Would like GW in the Ark. Ginnys for Turn. SAF BANC.

                  Ryanair;
                  KB; Weather watch for Banbridge who has other targets. Concern at the forecast.
                  JC; Envoi Allen all the way, loves the horse. Fil Dor to run into a place at a price.
                  MC; Conflated e/w.

                  Mares Hurd
                  JC; Magical Zoe won’t beat Lossie but runs a big race. HDB has some big chances.
                  KB; Lossie, maybe Marie’s e/w.
                  MC; Lossie.

                  XC
                  JC; MI.
                  KB; Ground a big factor. Likes Galvin but won’t run if soft. Delta probably.
                  MC; Coko if soft ground.
                  SB; MI

                  Bumper;
                  JC; No stand-out. Likes Teeshan. Yellow Clay at a price e/w. Patrick doesn’t know what to ride.
                  KB; Yellow Clay.
                  MC; You Oughta Know e/w.

                  MNH
                  JC; BDA hype is real.
                  KB; BDA, brilliant last run. Tough to beat.
                  MC; BDA

                  Mares Ch;
                  JC; Not sure Dinoblue stays, ADV the selection.
                  KB; Dinoblue a real 2 miler, might get away with it.

                  TH;
                  JC; Likes Storm Heart.
                  KB; Hard to pick at Sir Gino. Likes Nurburgring w/o Sir G.
                  MC; Sir Gino. Ethical Diamond of interest.

                  Boodles;
                  KB; Things not gone right for Lark, not 100% certain to run. Needs better ground. Cossack Chac should be considered.
                  JC; Nothing.
                  MC; Woodhooh underestimated.

                  Handicaps or anything else;
                  JC; Maskada in GA. Chianti or Trelawne in Ultima
                  KB; Harpers Brook in GA. Super talented.
                  MC; Chianti Ultima; Harry Fry’s Might I in Coral Cup.

                  Naps, next best, long shot;
                  JC; Nap; SAF NB; It’s on the Line. E/W Maskada
                  KB; Nap; Harpers; NB BDA; E/W HBTL
                  MC; Nap; It’s on the Line. NB; SAF. E/W Ethical Diamond
                  SB; Nap; MI; NB Edward; E/W L’Homme Presse.

                  Charity bet; JC; Yellow Clay; KB Harpers; MC SAF; SB MI

                            ….ha, ha, anything for the cause. Needed a couple of rums and ginger to get me through it.

                            Chapman makes me cringe. I find it difficult to see what value he adds to the sport.

                              Most people I know seem to share that view, me included. I wonder who actually rates him?

                                I met him once but that was 25 years plus ago and he was another young journo making his way. Think someone whispered in his ear he needed to be loud and expressive to stand out from the crowd. He's perfected that image alright and it hasn't held him back.
