  • Patricks ride.

I know he is desperate to win the Kim Muir before he packs it in.
He won't be able to ride Meetingofthewaters as he's been given a mark too high at 147.

But his dad has entered three others.
Don't get me wrong, he could easily ride something else, but think all 3 are worth covering as I doubt they'll run unless Patrick rides.

Minella Cocooner 16-1 General, - we don't know his mark and I'd imagine it will be tight, but if he got in then he'd be interesting as he's unexposed.
Chavez 28-1 with boost Ladbrokes and available at 25-1 in places - Definitely get in but also entered in the Plate, and looks limited but it's Willie.

And the one I think most likely and will get in is.

    Ontheropes 33-1 B365.
Given mark of 143 (142 his Irish mark) as he's in the National.

Now he has been Pulled up the last 2 times, so a lot of forgiving is required but I don't think he'll run unless Patrick rides, and if Patrick rides then they think he has a chance, and he don't go off at 33-1.

I kind of expect Patrick to get a ride from somewhere else, but there is a chance they have lined this horse up to complete the set for Patrick, after messing up Meetingofthewaters mark up early in the season.

Ontheropes also entered in the ultima but so is Meetingofthewaters, who can't run as he'll be expunged from the Kim Muir.

    • There was literally nothing in the Grand Annual that made any appeal to me... Until I saw Tommy's Oscar entered. 2nd to Banbridge in a Grade 2 Novice Chase round Cheltenham last season (looks decent now), beat Boothill by 5 and a half lengths a year ago, only 1lb higher than that, where as Boothill is 10lb higher. He's 3 from 4 in 2 mile chases on Good Ground (only defeat to Banbridge). Been running over 2 and a half miles more than 2 miles recently, which just stretches him IMO. Wants decentish ground, if he runs he's got a massive chance in what looks like a fairly poor renewal if the ground comes up in his favour, and he's virtually the biggest price of the field, 25/1 NRNB.

      • Bit of a blip, and might not run in it as his National prep, and was discussed on here the other day.
Been given a mark of 150 for the National.

Le Milos 50-1 NRNB B365 Ultima.

Thats just the wrong price full stop. 66-1 was even more wrong

On the flip side i can now have a good punt on calico.

The goffer is the naiad then, given 147 for the national, so you'd have to assume he'll be given the same for the ultima, a 15lb swing with the hattrick seeking corach rambler......... not sure that'll be enough for him if the champ turns up...

Just to add to this the goffer is a best priced 66/1 for the GN and corach rambler is 16/1...... they would run off the same weights as they would in the ultima. A race that corach is a proven specialist the same as the national..... I think the nrnb corach rambler for the ultima is value?
Value if he turns up possibly, but unless connections have had a change of mind, he’s going Gold Cup, I thought?

That's fair enough, but it's nrnb and he has an entry.

If he did turn up, what price? Surely no bigger than 5/1?

Maybe a point bigger but couldn't see him going off bigger than last year.

                Probably goldcup like you said

                • I've just noticed petit tonnere isn't entered in the grand annual, what the hell has jonjo been thinking with the campaigning he's been doing if he isn't going there

Yep, nrnb no harm done, and as you say he’s still got an entry so must be on their minds to some degree

                    • I wonder if Gilligan is going to try and do another Buddy One this year.

Sequestered got 2 entries but I'd imagine the Pipe would be favoured given the jockey.

130-1 Ladbrokes with boost 100-1 without.

Buddy One was similarly priced last year, at this point.

                        • Will this be the year Willie breaks his duck in the Festival Handicap Chases ?? Has to happen one year !! Who's the most likeliest winner for him from the entries??

                          • It's not really a race for repeat winners (understatement) but I don't think Maskada is a bad bet in the Grand Annual. Nice related double with Dinoblue in the Mares Chase to load up some more
