Racecard for Thurles, Thu, 22nd Feb, 2024, BoyleSports Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle
Looking at the Purcell entries it looks like connections want to go the graded route with Mistergif. Good luck to those on the big prices
And Elliot has entered Staffordshire Knot who will only be having his third run, and the more interesting Cleatus Poolaw and Western Fold, for handicap purposes
Possibly the most interesting Mullins entry for potential handicaps is Spread Boss Ted.

I was really hoping they would try to get another run into Mistergif for a handicap
My bet on him is Nrnb so no damage
would anyone cash out on him now if they were not on Nrnb ?
Mistergif will be graded or nothing now, most likely outsider in Supreme
Agreed. Particularly if RTW ends up in the Ballymore, which connections seem to favour at this stage. He’s this years Diverge I reckon. If Ballyburn were to head to the Baring Bingham, I’d actually really like his chances here.
I don't think Munir and Souede are really in the game for handicappers are they? Not without finding out they're not up to Graded class first anyway.
They had Hunters Yarn in the County Hurdle even though he won a listed race over 2m prior to the festival, and they brought Ocastle Des Mottes back in October (after 7 runs), one who could be primed for a handicap at the festival.
The fact they brought a horse who looked nothing out of the ordinary in France surely indicates they have some designs on a handicap first, I think Bromley said as much too. Admittedly he could be one that progresses to being a decent staying chaser in time, but as a hurdler he hasn't set the world alight.....yet!
I made the case in my diary, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ocastle Des Mottes ends up in trip in the Pipe. He's going into the race at least 9lbs lower than Galopin run in it, as he only got a rating of 133 for the Betfair Hurdle, and won't get a rise for that.

Weights for the Festival handicaps are framed as at the 25th of this month. My understanding is that the fourth run has to be by then to get a mark but the race conditions aren't exactly crystal clear and I may be mistaken.
As it happens, the cut off for the Imperial Cup is later but the race conditions state,
"A novice or juvenile horse shall only be
qualified to run in this race if it has run a minimum of
four times in Hurdle races in Great Britain, Ireland
or France in accordance with paragraph 15 of the Weights and
Handicapping Code"
This states that the horse must have run 4 times to qualify for a rating.
