With the Pertemps qualifiers well underway and plenty of discussion about forum favourite Langer Dan’s prospects, probably worth opening a general handicap thread.
There is, of course, the ‘Under the Radar’ thread in the Members section if FJs have identified one they want to protect.
Saint Roi for the Grand Annual is starting to look a bit more likely, his form this year is too bad to be true. Solid form last season, 3rd in the arkle, 2nd behind Banbridge at Aintree.

JP could just about run a Grand Annual full of his own horses

Willie just doesn't do Handicap Chases at the Fez though. Not won one yet. These stats are there to be broken though!

Dinoblue went close for same connections last season mind, and it's quite obvious Saint Roi will not be featuring in graded races this season with how hes being campaigned

Absolutely. Personally wouldn't go near Saint Roi though as he always seems to put a few bad jumps in when he needs them most. Probably needs further than 2m these days as well.

I think yesterday showed hes perfectly fine over 2m Lobos, ridden cold out the back mark hunting, he crept away into the race before almost being brought down at the fence before the turn, if it wasn't for that incident he'd have been right on the premises. Do agree he can himself throw in a sketchy jump though, but at the same time he jumped well in the Arkle last season off a strong pace
Aye, Saint Roi for the GA the kind of bet I can't resist. Wouldn't be worried about that Mullins stat either. Especially with a JP runner.
Actually backed Saint Roi for the Ryanair in the summer. And thought he might be given a proper crack at that. Seemed very wide of the plan from day 1 though as it's turned out.
Who's doing the honours with the list of horses currently qualified for the Pertemps? I've got Icare Allen at a reasonable price (posted at the time not after timed) but I'd like to be adding one or two more.
Does anyone know anything about Ocastle Des Mottes? Entered in betfair hurdle, double green for Mullins. Could be one for the county hurdle as its already ran 5 times over hurdles

Got a good write up in OJA. Bought as a novice chaser for next year. It be interesting to see what mark he gets.

My perception is Willie targets graded races generally & not really a Hcap plot trainer like GE…..he does win Hcap hurdles as he has so many good horses & sometimes just ends up with a good mark (eg State Man)
Chases take more plotting as horses more exposed
He’s bound to win one ….but not sure betting his horses is value in them
The Betfair Hurdle is worth a lot more than the County Hurdle. I'd expect they'd be trying to win that if good enough. Rather than any sort of prep angle...
