I don't really rate JDV for all he looked visually impressive, must have been one of the worst bumpers run in IRE this season

Wide open this year, we should at least get 4/1 the field
The ratings boffs say he has a way to go. They've been wrong plenty of times though.

    • That was an absolute crawl but William Munny put that to bed in a matter of strides.

Looks very smart. Wouldn't have suited Wingmen but William Munny showed a great turn of foot to put the space between them in the last 100 odd yards.

        • Was something said about William Munny not going to Cheltenham? Initially shortened on the Exchange with small amounts traded at 10s, 11s and 12s, but last price matched was 40 and now nothing to lay other than at 1000.

While Connell has no doubt William Munny has what it takes to make it to the top, he will resist the temptation to run in next month’s Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, but could go for the corresponding race at the Punchestown Festival later in the spring.

“He’s very unusual for a Westerner, as they normally don’t win bumpers, they improve when they get a hurdle and a fence,” he said.

“I’m definitely not taking him to Cheltenham. I don’t like giving them more than two runs in winner’s bumpers but I’m going to bring this lad to Punchestown for the Champion Bumper there, and I think he’s the one to beat in it.

“In my view, he’s the best bumper horse in the country and I’m hoping he’ll be a Grade One horse over a hurdle next year.”

                • Also surely makes C’est Ta Chance at 25/1 a bit of value

                      Westerner - trip preferences?

Not that I'm a pedigree buff, far from it, but he has no defined trip preference, IMO.

The horse himself was a class stayer on the flat, but he's produced horses like Ferny Hollow, W****** W******* & Dysart Dynamo, who have or were, pretty much campaigned, over 2m. He's also produced dour stayers, Champagne West, Cole Harden and Empire Of Dirt, the top of his crop.

I'd go with the eye-test for him as the pedigree doesn't really steer you in any direction. The page is pretty unspectacular and the damsire hasn't had many jumpers and none sired by Westerner. As COD said, looking at Westerner as a sire in isolation shows his versatility and no clear pointers on it's own.

                          • Cheers guys.

Was hoping for a short cut to William Munny next season but never mind.

                            • Some decent chunks of cash been thrown on Maughreen today on the exchange, over £500 alone at 5.6.

I think I'd be fairly sure supreme will be the target. He's shown plenty of pace and doesn't look like one that would be needing a step up in trip.

It's not a Mullins bingo situation either as it's a smaller trainer who probably won't have another one as good that would mean he'd have to be splitting them.

The trainer seems like one of the honest ones too, so whatever he says in the future regarding trip I'd take at face value more than I would with other trainers.
