  • Given the market beforehand you have to mark the performance up imo

    • Somewhat underwhelming bumper horses so far this season

      • I'd mark him up for that considering the drift but none of the bumper horses this year look to be as good as the top of last year's and the year before class.

The 2ndand 3rd had the benefit of a run last month and he's walloped the Mullins horse.

        Maughreens out on Monday anyway...

Yeah giving it was his first run under rules and he was keen/fresh most of the way I liked that he still had enough left to quicken to win
Will need to improve but will benefit from a more strongly run race and with the weakness in the betting there could be plenty of improvement to come

          • No one will be jumping in at 6/1 though which sums it up

            • There was plenty of chat about Romeo Coolio ahead of his 'track' debut at Fairyhouse and the son of Kayf Tara delivered at even-money.

He made 420,000 guineas at the Sales after winning a Belclare point-to-point in March for Donnchadh Doyle and bookmakers reported that he had been backed during the week for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.

Harry Swan raced him in the boxseat as the duo tracked Yoradreamer They tanked to the front racing to the final quarter of a mile, but were soon attended by Sporting Glory Swan got to work on his mount and sent him home by a length and a-quarter from the 22/1 runner-up.

Gordon Elliott said: “He's a good horse.

"It was a messy race as they went no gallop. I missed a bit of time with him a month or two ago and he's having a proper blow, he's going to come on a lot from it.

“If I didn't come here I had to go to Navan, there aren't a lot of races for him going forward and I wanted to get a run into him.

“On the day probably 80 per cent of mine ran below par so I was nervous going into the race, but I think he's a proper horse.

“It's all about the future with this horse, whatever he does this year is only going to be a bonus — I think he's a real one.

“The boys (KTDA Racing) are big supporters of the yard and they flew over from England today, so I'm delighted to get them a winner.

“He'll go straight to Cheltenham now. I'm not worried about today, the race was very messy and it didn't work out. They went no gallop and he's a big galloping horse. He's a stayer.

“Harry said he didn't do a stroke when he got to the front.

“It's one of those days, I didn't think we had too many that were going to win but at the same time we had one or two run disappointing. That's the game we're in and I've had worse days.”

What makes you think she's the one?

I know he has is followers so I could be proved wrong, but I'd be surprised if he's not double his current price at some point prior to Cheltenham.
Winning that race like that today is not even worthy of being 16-1 IMO.
And Gordon's comments smack of Massaging expectations.

Underwhelming wasn't it. Im up to my neck on him NRNB and was hoping they'd say 'he's one for the future and that Cheltenham would come too soon so he's staying at home!'

I'd love if i could get out of the bet at some point but think he'll be double figures on the day.

What 4 or 5 are going to be ahead of him in the betting come March Q?

Looks a really weak and lacklustre renewal this year, one that might not take much winning at all. Didn't blow everyone away but the market vibes, coupled with a sprint finish, he's not done too badly IMO. I'd have preferred one more run prior to March for extra experience but Gordon should get him ready enough at home.

Only jesting. I was going through the Punchestown card and saw she was declared and remembered some talk on here about her a while ago.

You heard anything about Jasmin De Vaux?

Dublin festival will probably show up 3 or 4 better horses on form, from the mares and gelding races.
Could even be a mares year this year.

But I get your point, as it looks a poor bunch so far.
Was based on his current price right now really.
I'd be like FM and would hate to have anything on him at less than 16-1 right now. It'd take some serious wishful thinking to be hopeful.

It's a notoriously wonky market some years, especially on the day betting when there is no clear favourite.
It's a bit like this thread, and you get all sorts coming out with rumours and tips etc.
He could go off Favourite or 20-1+

                          • My overall impression of that was

                            Meh

Gonna need to improve a stone on that possibly 2 stone

The second got thumped in his other bumper run

Would I lay off my bet, no
Am I expecting to collect, no

Yeah I remember reading that aswell, but if i recall correctly, it was more mutterings than anything solid.

No havent heard anything of Jasmin of late

C'est ta chance could be one for Mullins, Paddy gave a mention on one of the latest SL previews.

Definitely a season next year where I'll be thinking of looking at imports for the novices rather than what has come through the bumper season at this stage anyway.

Yeah I was glancing through the mares, obviously you have Aurora Vega but is ineligible if she goes DRF G2 Mares IIRC. The one that took my eye was Baby Kate. Her dam was 7th in the champ bumper, and she's already won at the track. I wonder if they would maybe pitch her in there :/ All up in the air it seems.
