It wouldn't have made a difference but I'm not sure it was the greatest ride by Cobden.
With a run away leader you don't want to be off the pace of the second group like he was, you could see he has to tap into a bit of the tank to get round the back markers at the start of the last circuit. When someone goes off like that being at the front of the chasing pack is still similar to being off the pace.
He was also holding on to BR before they came round the bend, I wonder if he should have let him stride on and get up alongside Sir Gino much earlier.
On the plus side, more experience of jumping hurdles with horses around him.
As I said, it wouldn't have changed the result today but I would still look forward to a rematch (and I say that as a back of both)Comment
