Hello Fat Jockeys,

  • I think we all know that Festival form is often a good pointer.
I can see the point of his Cheltenham winning form not working out and it's pointless to dissect this as most Championship races tend to look worse over time as horses fall away and take on new disciplines etc.
And in this case the four horses at single figures in this market have never won at Cheltenham, never mind the festival itself. And three have never even ran at the track.

Like CAT says, it's a price thing as it should always be IMO.
And he could easily be rubbish today if the track is the issue with him and not end of season management.

Irish Point looks the best of them IMO, and for some random reason I'm not sure the trainer agrees. His form is rock solid except for one very bizarre run at the Dublin festival.
The French horse is hard to assess but I also respect.

Theleme is not the only horse to have beaten Ile est Francais either.

    • Sir G was running a big race behind Dinoblue over fences last time . Still in with a chance of winning when crashing out at the second last. Dinoblue has shown that form to be pretty good since and is currently 3rd fav for the Champion Chase . Proves to me that the engine is very much still there. Doubts about the course obviously today but he's been heavily backed to win so someone likes him.

      • Agree with Q that Irish Point is the best Staying performance we've seen this season and hard for anyone to disagree with that id say. I'd have him over Teahupoo in a match bet at Cheltenham so if they are to split them then the latter should wait for Aintree. Robcour should run both though . That would give them a serious chance of winning the race and improving their Festival record.

        • Elliot did say Irish Point probably has more class than Teahupoo so i'd say he agrees he's probably a better standard of horse, but it's the attitude etc. of Teahupoo that gives him something extra too.

Irish Point's race for me worked out too perfect for him, Joseph's horse didn't get to go a pace, they all sat in behind and let him idle in front. A true 3 mile pace with a couple going at it in front will properly test Irish Point's staying ability for me. If he goes that is- perhaps Aintree, i dunno.

Couldn't back Sir G with anyone's money for a stayers. Regardless of his price for March now + what it will be after the race.

If I were owner of these two, I reckon I would be waiting as long as possible before deciding.
With Teahupoo I would want to know as much as possible re the likely going. If it were soft I would run T at Cheltenham and save IP for Aintree. Could win two races in that scenario.
Anything better than soft I would want IP at Cheltenham.
Probably run both. Unless I knew it were likely to be soft at Aintree. Then I would run T there.

              • I think both Teahupoo and Irish Point will end up lining up in the Stayers. They could keep Irish Point for Aintree but they'll end up bumping into Constitution Hill there so let him go for glory in the Stayers.

I don't think the last race told us much - they were much slower than the handicap hurdle most of the way and it ended up being a 2 mile race really. He was entitled to beat them in those circumstances and he done it well. Stayers will be different so he needs to prove he stays the 3m at championship pace.

Irish point could run in the 3 miler at Aintree if the hill shows up in the 2m4f

                  • As expected, money coming for Sir G prior to today's run. Big cut from 33's into 20's with several.

                    • I always liked aspire tower for the stayers route, but id imagine they are lining up a handicap now, potentially a coral cup

They haven't always been single figure prices apart from maybe teahupoo.
But they've all won open grade 1's, 3 of them at 3 miles.
all of them are at an age where improvement is much more likely than that of sir g.
Crambo was available at the same odds as sir g, I tried with all my might to convince everyone he was a grade 1 winner in waiting at 3 miles.
If you've missed the boat he's still there at a backaable price, stop wasting time with sir g

That could easily be 160-ish RPR ..,,certainly enough to put him right up there with top of stayers market …come on !!
