    • Teahupoo got a rotten ride last year from Davy. He had a very poor festival overall, was trying too hard & not hard enough in equal measure. Nothing came off for him he was miles off it. That coupled with his age gives the horse a pass for me personally based on last years run.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Teahupoo go straight from the Hatton’s Grace to the festival this season or maybe they might take in Leopardstown at Christmas if he’s fresh enough after Fairyhouse, but they definitely won’t run at Gowran again, I think it took an edge off him. Gordon seems to be planning lighter campaigns for his open company graded horses. Similar plans mentioned for Gerri Colombe.

He couldn't have had a worse prep in the lead up to the festival but was still travelling best of all until finding sod all up the hill. With a better prep, he could be a factor imo.
I don’t think he stays a genuine end to end gallop in the stayers. He didn’t look like he appreciated the pace at the front end in March anyway. I was bullish about him especially after his Navan prep but think that 2m5f distance is more his bag.

The Albert Bartlett trial he won over C&D in 21 wasn’t run at a true gallop. He’d be of interest to me in a Coral Cup or something like that if staying over hurdles. No doubt C Byrnes has something up his sleeve for him if he can keep him sound this, no better man.

I'm so annoyed that this makes sense

Given I've backed Teahupoo and see Marie's Rock as a massive danger....

          I've got no proper case

I’d pick up a bit of long odds on Marie’s for Mares on exchange when it’s available…..weak race this year & was run to favour speed horses last year

I’m not sure about her for Stayers & easy to see how she ends up in Mares with a chance

            • The jockeys on the horses near the back had a shocker last year

If that was a normally run race teahupoo wins easily

He beat the rest of the held up horses by miles

He did his running catching up to the prominent runners

Should have Jack on this year ….which will make a huge diff

Not many jockeys seem to ride the festival consistently well …..Paul (mostly), Rachael, Danny & Jack, who maybe best there is when fit

Tea is also a year older, light campaign…..looks great shout

Davy rode him like he'd had a few pints of Guinness pre race

Had him way too far back then zig zagged his way down the straight

Wasn't even his worst ride of the week either, it was pied piper in the county who would've won had he not almost fallen off

Was v sad to see…..a great jockey….,but ride like me after the Guiness tbh

Interesting debate for another thread, but great as Davey was….even at his peak not sure he did as well as he should at Chelt

My hypothesis is Chelt favours the great riders tactically (Ruby & Rachael obvious examples) and great finishers (Barry maybe best of all?)

Ruby obviously just the best period …..but Rachael/Barry arguably over-perform at Chelt vs generally

But since I think Jack could be a future Ruby….Teahupoo all the way & if he stays off the Guiness, we’re home

                      • Marie’s Rock stayed the distance at Aintree.
Beat a few recognised stayers comfortably.
Got beat by the festival winner who does stay very well.
Same could happen again here of course, but If I were thinking of backing Maries, Aintree would not put me off.
                        It don’t, and I have.

Teahupoo should have won last year, conditions suited. Dont think he'll improve from what we saw. Comes up good ground in March and he'll be a 5/10

Maries Rock, I have a feeling this mare is a little waywood in and around March. Never really looked into Mares in terms of their cycles and whether this is just a myth. But But like Apples Jade when she was a banker for the mares, Maries ran terrible in March. Again, I not saying this was due to some biological changes, its just that she's never been able to get to or run a race at the Fez, and it wouldnt suprise me if it happened again
Except Marie’s won in March 22

                              Asking for a friend
If the late comers to the party are not standout then they both have a reasonable chance, especially Teahupoo due to age. But they look under priced based upon what IMO could materialise.
They both look likely to be beaten during the season also. And backing at the current prices you's have to envisage a scenario where the prices are considerably shorter than at present.
I don't see that, come the day itself. However, it is not beyond all reason and could work out. So it's a fingers crossed
