  • “Horses for courses”

I do think BMG would have ran close to his mark at Kempton, if he hadn’t had these two tough races… as mentioned, he’s ran 5 tough races since Boxing Day.

I can’t say “the trainer and / or connections” made the wrong call, I was close to staying that as I’ve backed BMG for the KG antepost, and therefore waited BMG protected for that race
however!!!! I don’t want to see a 4 runner Charlie hall or a 4 runner Betfair chase. I want to see these horses come out and win races outside of the fez. I want to see them go up against each other multiple times a season.

as soon as we question “why did they run him here, the x race was his target”, we’re feeding into thing cycle of picking and chosing easier races for prep runs and only focusing on 2-3 meets per year

i dont know what the answer is…. but the outcome would be to see these top horses running 4-5 times a year, and for them to clash with one another on a few - priority being the horses welfare first

    • 161 Fastorslow?

Slatter was given 160 for his win against Farouk D'alene
Eldorado Allen given 162 for his second place in the Betfair chase last year
Protektorat given a 167 finishing 5th in the Cotswolds

Are we saying that John Durkan was rubbish? Because I'd happy back all the horses in that race for the remainder over the season over anything that ran in the race above, and I could throw in more

I think that John Durkan will be one of those races which generates multiple winners next time out, and I dont think all of them ran below par. I think it was a high performing race

The problem with the race is that it was run at a crawl. They only got racing two out really. Hard to justify a high rating on that performance. They'll all be capable of higher you'd think and yes you're right, they'll be plenty of winners come out of the race.

As the rating for the individual race, I'd say it's spot on and exactly matches the new OR for Appreciate It. What it implies is that, second time up and over further, there ought to be more to come from first and third. But we knew that anyway. They couldn't really say that, because Fastorslow is a high 160s horse and GDC a high 170s horse, Appreciate It must have run to high 160s on Sunday.

            • Stick them in a handicap, I'm sure all of their rating would change after 1 run

It does feel 4/5lbs lower than it should be, almost like they're afraid to give AI a career best RPR at 9 turning 10 given he run a host of mid 150 efforts last year. Only someone's opinion at the end of the day and it's worth pointing out for those who are unaware that assessors at the RP get moved about so aren't always rating the same races year in year out(spoken to a few of the newer faces at RP and even those who are essentially glorified journalists get a craic at dishing out some of these).

He'd have gone closer but for missing the last big time. Crap race ....No. Flattering maybe .....Yes. I think the Handicapper is being realistically cautious about the race/result.

That's sort of what they always have done thou, a horse rated XYZ beat a horse 2L so blanket bunch the ratings to suit the highest, that's why Graded races always get big figures 9/10 even if they are slowly run affairs etc. Not saying it's right but what's often occurred.

If you say so. The official handicappers agree on 168 which, last time I looked, was high 160s.
