  • IF Stay Away Fay is beat tomorrow are we chucking the Bartlett form in the bin?

Second placed Affordale Fury got hammered when upped in grade.

Third placed Sandor Clegane also well beat but did finish 2nd in the same race Affordale Fury got hammered in.

Fourth placed Letsbeclearaboutit was beat plenty enough by I Am Maximus and Found A Fifty in the Drinmore.

Fifth placed Three Card Brag was a solid 2nd on chase debut, but was backed liked defeat was out of the question (I think 9/2 into 7/4f!) in a hot enough looking contest, so you'd have to believe he was revved up for that debut.

Sixth placed Thomas Mor hasn't been seen since.

Seventh placed Weveallbeencaught has been beat twice including being hammered by stable mate Broadway Boy.

Plenty made encouraging debuts over fences but since being upped in grade it all seems to have gone pear shaped!

Corbetts Cross, who run out in the Bartlett obviously bounced back to form when beating Three Card Brag, which he probably would have done in the Bartlett too, so it probably hasn't told us an awful lot.

A fair bit resting on Stay Away Fays shoulders tomorrow to keep the form alive

Really looking forward to Stay Away Fay today and hoping he puts in a good performance as he's my biggest BANC winner and also in so many multiples. I think he will as I was impressed with his jumping and he will be much fitter. I got the feeling Nicholls was relieved with his win lto as may not have had him as fit as he thought.

Hes my best winner also, so yes hoping for a good performance, but he is up against a decent one today.
Ive done Giovinco to win today and banc in an attempt to get him on side as well.

          • In a similar position of Stay Away Fay being by biggest winner for the BANC, where I backed him post AB in a decent single but slightly concerned. As ComplyOrDie says the AB form is starting to look questionable. And Giovinco is highly thought of and could well provide a proper test. But even the Tizzard horse has a 3lb swing to find a length and a half on Stay Away Fay from last time out... The dream could end today.

            Letting it roll though

To be fair, despite my musings about the Bartlett form, I'd still be hopeful of a solid run at the festival even if beat today. He's got to give 3lbs for starters, so as long as he's not hammered he should be fine. He does have that all important festival form in the bank too, which should never be underestimated.

              • I suspect stay away fay will be very tough to beat around sandown

His jumping was superb on debut and he could easily get them all in trouble at the 7 down the back

I wouldn't give up on giovinco if he gets beaten today, its his first proper race

                • Thoughts on JPRone ahead of tomorrow?

Not one I have in book & guessing could shorten if wins…,but not sure has class for more than ew interest at best

I get your point about none of the Bartlett runners going on to win a graded Chase, but it is still the first half of the season. And 7 have actually won over fences which isn't too shabby in early December. When you add the 2 hurdle winners and a royal ascot winner that brings the total to 10,which I think is really pretty good.

Yeah, it's not too shabby, in all, I did say that many made encouraging debuts as well.

Some of the horses who never finished in the Bartlett seem to have fared better than those that did finish. Favori Du Champdou was PU in the Bartlett but hammered Sandro Clegane & Affordale Fury in the Florida Pearl, Chianti Classico who was PU in the Bartlett is 2 from 2 over fences, albeit not stepped up into a graded race yet, and as you note Dawn Rising won at Royal Ascot, but was PU in the Bartlett.

Maybe, just maybe, the Bartlett left its mark on some of them, like it has done in the past with some horses.

Hopefully it's a good battle between Stay Away Fay & Giovinco today. If I was Gionvinco's rider I'd want to be well clear of Stay Away Fay going into the final furlong, as I wouldn't want a head to head battle with SAF as I think he's a very gutsy type.

                      • I am torn between doing the wtaf for Gio and waiting and backing him if he gets beat. I’m being tight as ideally I’m trying to limit to one bet. I think Sir Alex will win today but it’s a 55/45 think if that makes sense. I guess it’s why it’s called gambling. Anyone want to direct me either way?

If you can get on with Coral, I did the 20/1 RSA with them as if he loses/comes a close second today he still probably goes RSA. Seems a better bet than adding 5pts for him to have to win today?

I done the SAF one as Gio is already my biggest winner in the race. Of course, if you're only backing one it becomes a whole lot more difficult.

Wouldn't want to call it at this stage, personally, so no help at all I'm afraid
