Hello Fat Jockeys,

        • Meanwhile, Fact To File fell just short in providing his trainer Willie Mullins with yet another Champion Bumper victory at Prestbury Park in the spring and was sent off at odds-on to make a successful chasing debut over two-and-a-half miles.

It is a distance he thrived over at Leopardstown during his bumper season, but Berry suggested there would be no qualms about dropping back in trip if required.

“I would say he is happy at that trip, but if he had to come back to two miles that wouldn’t be a problem,” he added.

“It’s where we can find the races for them here, there are so many good races around, I would say he will either stick to two-and-a-half or two.”

          • That's surprising. Although this is the same Berry who said he'd be novice hurdling a few days before Willie confirmed he'd go chasing.

And Patrick saying he'd need to go up in trip, even mentioning the 4-miler!

Exactly, take it with a fistful of salt from Berry

I'm very interested to see how he jumps as he isn't very big

Hopefully does better than James du berlais, he isnt the biggest either and struggled to get from A to B quick enough

To be fair, I'd only listen to Willie, nevermind Patrick or the various racing managers. That probably sounds a bit obvious but it does avoid us getting confused and we are seeing more and more examples, in this era of podcasts and assistant trainers having Racing Post platforms, of many opinions being voiced.

                      Yep, agreed.
Mullins clearly runs a different operation to everyone else, I know from recent experience that extremely high profile owners are not communicated to on changes of direction with their horses, quite how he gets away with it is baffling as it stinks of complete disrespect to the bill payer to me, but as we all know the bloke is a genius in training racehorses and he's not short of owners wanting their horses with him so clearly they are prepared to accept his ways of working.
But yes, what Mullins says will always carry greater weight than any owner/owners rep...

He jumped the French hurdles easy/well enough which are bigger than our hurdles so Im hoping the transition isn’t as bad as James Du Berlais found it. I know JDB jumped those as well but have to give MP his chance.

You would have to think that if they weren’t confident enough they would have sent State Man or Impaire Et Pass? over fences and left him over hurdles for another season and a crack at the champion hurdle surely? He’ll likely have done some schooling by now, nobody can know how much of course.

Thats the positive spin I am putting on it

                        • I could sware somebody on here was saying they weren’t overly concerned about MPs ability to jump fences because of his size but now there is an opposite view. I only have a small screen iPad to hand to look at replays and so I can’t tell definitively but he doesn’t look very big at all to my eyes. Are we settling on him being quite small. I have been open mindedly concerned (if there is such a thing)about his breeding but was tempering my view based on previous size discussions but a small flat bred is a wait and see brief to me? The whole of the forum seems to be on this fella so I will be cheering him on despite having held fire myself.

I Poo Poo'ed him myself when he was first brought up, especially on price and breeding, but it appears some had word he was set to go for the arkle. This changed things for me, given connections and potential.
So I backed him - as I have the other 2 already in the book.
His price now is very short, but he has the potential and seemed to jump hurdles perfectly well.
                            We shall see.

Yep totally understand folks snaffling the nice prices based on connections and favourable comments. This is a perfect example of where not having cash out is a right pain in the arse. I nearly pulled the trigger when I read the original size comments but am half glad I didnt. I’d like to think I would have checked for myself but I’m not convinced I would so that’s definitely a note to self
